In our many discussions about safety there have been quite a few who suggest idea of cross training to help lower injury rates. I think it sounds great but can't say I'm sure about what would be some sports or activities which would be a good compliment to cheer. Suggestions anyone?

All athletes at UA, Mini through Senior take mandatory Crossfit classes as part of their team training. It's included as part of our tuition. It really helps with conditioning and strength through functional movements and can reduce injuries. Not really another sport per se, but another activity that can help with any sport.

I love the idea of that, but with a lot of what I've read about your gym it sounds really, really, really freakin' expensive! I mean, how much "extra" are the Crossfit classes? And if your cp did another sport, would you be able to avoid that cost for Crossfit?
Sorry, I'm in "just-got-the-new-costs/fees-for-this-season"nightmare right now...

There is no extra charge, it is part of our tuition. We pay same amount once a month, no more no less for everything (except for out of town comps)... and fun things like apparel & trading pins etc...

If you do Crossfit, be careful with where you go. There's a lot of really bad Crossfit trainers that tend to throw technique to the wind with the weight training exercises. I road bike for cardio, and go on hikes. I used to trail run and swim occasionally as well, but right now it's just the bikes and the gym for me.
