On what day does your gym close?
(I'm looking for dates)

The reason I ask is because I was reading another thread where someone said they get time off for 4th of July and I know gyms close for other holidays!

Luckily our gym does not close for these holidays!!:)

We are closed Nov 21-26 for Thanksgiving

And Dec 24-31 for Christmas/ New Years Eve.

That's it!

Which I absolutely love!

Our old gym closed for a lot of holidays like a lot of Monday holidays through the year and I was so bored sitting at home! I hated weeks with holidays! Lol

So when does your gym close? How do you feel about the closing.

How do you think it should be.. Just curious!

I don't really like closing, but coaches need a break sometimes.

we close july 4th week, the first week of school, thanksgiving, christmas, and spring break
Huh I haven't heard of a gym closing for the first week of school. That's interesting. I feel like it wouldn't work to well where I'm at because not everyone starts at the same time.

That's interesting that they close the first week of school. I know that it is an adjustment that first week, what with everyone having to run around and get unexpected school supplies and book covers and those type of items, but I wouldn't think that they would need to close. If anything, I would think it would be easier 'to get back in the swing of things' all at once by jumping into everything at the same time. Just my thoughts...

all of our public schools start the same week, and our private schools are tiny. We just found that the first week of school had orientations, meet the teachers and other things going on to the point where attendance was low that week anyway

This year we actually have a two week break for the fourth of july. I actually like it. Christmas and new years we usually have and thanksgiving also.

It works for our situation, all of the new school orientation (happens in the evening) kids would be out so thats all the kindergarteners, 6th graders, and 9th graders. and all of the school cheerleaders because they are the ambassadors/orientation staff and whatever other groups are presenting and/or involved in that process. On top of that a large portion of our parents are teachers.

after our first couple of years of being open, it just started to make sense to close that week

That does make sense. I never even thought about that age group; I haven't had orientation that first week of school in awhile, but I do remember having it when my children were younger and all of the conflict it caused with practices.

I can see how, if having to choose between finding about what is expected from your child and you as a parent from your child's teacher vs. cheer practice, that most would not be attending cheer practice due to that conflict.

my club being a college club.

we have two weeks off after first comp, it falls right on semester break. so it works out well. we do attend open stunt/tumble during these times.

Then we also have from last comp which is late October to when college goes back which isn't till the start of march off. although we can attend summer training if we like.

we also have a few days off for Easter.
Christmas falls on summer training but summer training does stop for two weeks over it and new years.

as for other public hoildays, this year so far i think we have had training on all of them

I usually go crazy over holidays. Im actully going away after first comp so that one would be alright. Christmas break drives me crazy through!

We're closed 4th of July, memorial Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving weekend, a week around Christmas (maybe 10 days, not sure) and around one of the school's Spring break. I'm thankful for the mini breaks because a) it gives kids time to do something with their families and b) it gives growing bodies a bit of a rest. Tumbling is prorated for the closing a so we don't lose money.

I think both kids and coaches need the breaks to recharge. Our gym is closed 2 weeks during the summer which is usually the last week of June through the July 4th holiday. Closed during memorial and labor day. Closed the week of thanksgiving and then closed for 2 weeks during Christmas through the new year. It works out great for all involved.

Tumble Tech-

September 3rd (Labor day)
October 31st (Halloween)
November 17th-25th (Thanksgiving)
December 22nd- January 4th (Winter break)
February 15th-18th (Only closed for teams who don't attend Cheersport)
February 23rd (Only closed for teams who don't attend WSF Nationals)
March 11th-17th (Closed for Hillsborough county spring break)
March 23rd-31st (Closed for Pinellas county spring break)

We have spring break off (week before Easter down here), the week between Christmas and New Year's and July 4th week, and the 3 days around Thanksgiving. Half the kids age middle school and younger go to school year round, so not everyone is on the same school schedule. In the fall we have practices on Sunday, Tues, Thursday so we don't take off for those Monday Holidays. We used to do a comp just about 2 weeks after Christmas break and I always hated it because the teams seemed sluggish coming back from that.

Were closed the week of the 4th (coaches vacation and most of ours), Christmas, Easter etc. However, they'll usually have privates continuing through those breaks (Christmas and Easter) and they'll usually have 1-2 days of open tumbling for anyone who wants to come.

My old gym closed during the week of July 4th (this was the week they "encouraged" you to take your vacations), Thanksgiving weekend, and sometime from around December 20th through January 2nd. We also sometimes had our gym close if it was too hot (usually 95+) because we didn't have a/c and if there was severe weather (snow or tornado warnings). Funny part about the whole snow deal is it could be a whiteout where I live so I couldn't get there, but at my gym on the other side of the city, there was nothing. That's Ohio for ya though.
