Hey everyone, with EXECUTION becoming a big focus for coaches, here are some tips that I believe are essential for good execution in stunting

DON’T MOVE

A big part of execution in stunting is the ability of the stunt group to perform the sequence without drifting from their formation. Ensure the bases have a wide stance so they are stable when holding the stunt. Knees should be slightly bent so they can stay underneath the flyer and absorb impacts without having to take a step. Not moving also ensures that formations are clean & visible, raising the score for overall performance.

GET A GRIP

Having good grips ensures that your flyer is stable and able to pull their lines, do their tic tocs and not bobble. Bases should keep the feet flat, grip the foot tightly and not tilt it to any side. When catching the foot, bases should open their hands allowing more surface area for the flyer to land on. Furthermore they should catch the foot according to how they want to hold it – don’t just snatch, re-gripping or re-adjusting can cause a bobble resulting in a loss of execution.

STAY CLOSE

Bases need to stay close to one another in order for the stunt to be stable and to hit any twisting or switching skills at the appropriate height whether it be prep or extension. Minimal gaps between bases ensures that the stunt is tight and allows the bases to hold the stunt with their entire structure instead of just their arms. Ensure that the bases are stepping into one another when going up into an extension stunt and are moving together during twisting skills.

Ultimately, the key lies in executing the fundamentals properly. Many great teams that can execute difficult skills with little to no trouble are usually teams that have strong fundamentals. Better execution in basics will lead to smoother, safer and faster progressions.
