I have braces so I was wondering if anyone else with braces knows a way to whiten their teeth for comps? I was considering getting the professionally whitened but online everyone makes it seem like a bad idea.

if you whiten your teeth with braces when you take your braces off you will have discoloring where the brackets were. or so ive been told.

I dont have braces but i love the crest whitening strips!! Their whitening toothpaste works really well too. Plus they work pretty fast. Getting them professionally done would be really expensive when you could buy a box of the strips and use them two days before competitions!

I didn't know teeth whitening was related to All Star cheer... thought this would be more random..

@WorkToWin is right if you whiten them when you get them taken off your the teeth behind the brackets will be a diff color. I honestly dont see how whitening your teeth will even matter when you have braces because I dont really think it will show.

BUT as far as whitening products I do like the crest white strips, and "plus white 5 min whitening gel" works great too and is less than 10 dollars!

Be careful you don't use something that will weaken your enamel. It's slightly concerning for gyms to ask underage athletes to tan or whiten their teeth - both of which can have potential dangerous effects on their long term health. I suppose every adult cheerleader I know has got a laundry list of aches and pains from tumbling and stunting, so I suppose it's not entirely different. Carry on.

"OMG what happened to your gums!?" "cheerleading". Sorry had to lol

whitening pre-brush rinse (like mouthwash) and crest 3d white toothpaste. crest and listerine both make the pre-brush whitening rinse but i just buy the generic brand from target (up&up). it uses the same ingredients that you'll find in whitestrips, but it's much cheaper.

BUT: i wouldn't recommend using that mouthwash and toothpaste everyday. i used to do that and i noticed that my teeth were becoming very, very sensitive. i use a different mouthwash and toothpaste 2 or 3 times a week to give my teeth and gums a break.

I've seen cheerleaders all pass around ibuprofen like tic tacs too, my daughter came home from her Health class and is like should I worry about my kidneys?

Anyway, with whitening strips, you may want to be careful about your gums (depending on your overall gum health). Some "experts" recommend the whitening dental rinses instead. Maybe you should ask your dentist? The orthodontist wrote us a prescription for post-braces whitening and it cost us a FORTUNE!

I had braces in 5th grade and my teeth were whiter when they came off. Idk how that's possible but they definitely were.

As far as things that can hurt your teeth since y'all brought up gums and y'all probably would never do this but I had a Monroe piercing for a longg time and it has rubbed my gum to the point it is non existent and that one tooth goes all the way up because there is no gum over it.

Sorry- (That was the longest run on sentence but I don't feel like fixing it!)

Same thing, I cut hit in the mouth and their nail literally cut off half of my gum. Sooooo gross!

That sucks, yours probably hurt more then mine. It was just a gradual thing the longer I kept the piercing in but if I was hit and someone's nail did it would be painful!
I wonder if our gums will grow back. Lol
