I think what bums me out the most about Morgan is that it makes me feel like had she skipped these comps (she's still rehabing an injury) and tried to petition straight to Trials they would have let her. No guarantees of course but it happened on the men's side with Colin Van Wicklen. Instead she went for it, tried to shake off the dust, and didn't make it. I wonder if that was going through her head.

A lot of it breaks my heart, because you wonder how things might have shaken out if Tokyo happened last year? How many athletes might have made it through (or never got a chance!) if things weren't pushed back an extra year.

I'm glad Chellsie seems to enjoy still playing around and pushing herself, because Day 2 for her made me so sad. Her comeback in general is just absolutely amazing. To be hitting things better than 2008? Love that for her.

Canada's WAG team just got announced, Rose Woo didn't make it but Ava Stewart did. Stewart is a first-year Senior. There's also Ana Padurariu who just got too injured over the past year, dashing her hopes of Tokyo before starting her NCAA career with UCLA in the fall.

Then there's team Spain, Cintia Rodriguez and Ana Pérez, who was part of the team that helped Spain earn a team berth to the Olympics, both out this year due to injuries.

Becky Downie and Ellie Downie most likely making team GB had it not been delayed and not having to deal with the death of their brother leading up to Olympic trials.

Gave both Larisa Iordache and Rebeca Andrade a chance to earn themselves a nominative berth to the Olympics.

On the MAG side of things, Artur Dalaloyan tore his ACL right before Euros this year and is unlikely to be back at full-difficulty (the level Russia needs him to be) for Russia to realistically challenge for the Olympic team gold against Japan and China (who look really damn good).

Oleg Verniaiev has his FIG license suspended earlier this year (still suspended), slashing Ukraine's hopes for a team medal with a very promising Junior who turned Senior this year, Illia Kovtun.

Turkey earning their 4th nominative Olympic berth (basically enough to form a team) at Euros this year with Adem Asil switching from representing Egypt to representing Turkey starting in March 2020.

The list of "what ifs" literally go on forever... it's such damaging year for some individuals and programmes, but presents hope in others.

Plus the recent retirement of Kenzo! Weird year all around.

So excited to watch the trials tonight! I have my predictions mad and I'm interested to see if things play out like I think they will

thoughts after night one?
im torn on mckayla making it, she looks great, but i feel like her form and execution on a lot of skills would be torn apart by international judges

My team rn is Simone, Jordan, suni, and either grace or mykayla. Individuals rylie and jade, possibly mykayla or grace instead of rylie, whoever doesn't really make the team. what are yalls team USA predictions?

thoughts on trials? im really happy for mckayla getting an individual spot, but feel like vault finals is the only one she will make, possibly floor... devastated for riley, i really thought if she wasnt on the team she would get an individual spot.

Having the board down for trials was just cruel.

I can't decide if I'm going to get on Team Mikayla and give her the benefit of the doubt that she was young and dumb, or hold her past... stupidity against her.

Maggie Haney is a hideous monster and should be banned for life. So should that judge talking crap online. Riley is an angel and I hope she thrives at Florida.

The team is killer. It'll be interesting to watch Jade and Mikayla go head to head and see who comes home with a medal. I am also still appalled that parents aren't allowed.

I have too many thoughts I've been holding in!

I'm sad about Riley :( Bars is the final I'm looking forward to the most, I really thought she'd be competing. I don't really understand why MyKayla got the individual spot tbh. I'm happy for her, but wouldn't it have made more sense for that spot to go to a bars specialist? idk I'm not an expert lol but with the 2 per country rule in place it doesn't make sense to me with Simone and Jade there. It'll be fun to watch them compete though.

Same.

I really like Grace, but I thought Mikayla made more sense in the team spot. Like why are we sending two individuals that do the same thing? I know that Riley majorly screwed up, but she at least gives them a (slim) shot at another medal on UB, whereas Skinner and Carey will both be fighting for the same spot. USAG is a mess.
