Hi! This is my first post on the Allstar forum. My family and I are considering a move to Austin, Tx from Canada. I have 2 girls in cheer, ages 5 (L1) and 7 (L2), and would love some info on local cheer teams. From other posts I have read that ACF is a good team but have not heard any news on Cheer Station.

As my children are still quite young and new at the sport, 1 and 3 years experience respectively, my top priorities for a new team are a team that can provide growth (ie. L3+), exemplary coaching, and friendships! We come from an highly regarded team, competed at World's and won First place in one division and placed 4th and 7th in 2 other divisions - sorry I am bragging but very proud of our team and yet I digress again:) My point being that we come an exemplary team and I would love to find a new home team that is similar in order to make the huge move/transition a little less intimidating. Cheer is my 7 years old life and I want to encourage to continue her passion but need to find a suitable home team first.

Thank you to all who contribute to this post; I truly appreciate any and all feedback.

I wish I could help about Cheer Station. I haven't "seen" them in over 2 seasons. And what I did remember was only the lower level teams because that's what team my cp was competing against...LOL. From what I remember, I was not impressed with their lower level teams. But again, this was the 2009-2010 season. I do not think they have a worlds team. Nothing really in this area has any strong Worlds teams, for that you'd have to go to the Dallas or Houston area.
That being said, ACF is definitely the most well known gym. The only thing I can recommend is visiting both places and deciding. If you know the area of town you'd be living in and also state how far you'd be willing to drive, that might help. I'm sure you're going to get a lot of people telling you to go to Houston. LOL

. . . or Dallas. There are people who already come from the Austin area to cheer on teams at our gym. There are possibly people from Austin who go to gyms in Houston (or other Dallas gyms.) Carpools are probably available.

While a 3 hour drive (or short flight) is still a relatively long way, it wouldn't even be close to the longest commute some athletes make.

I'm curious...do you have any 5 - 7 year olds commute that far? I would expect it of worlds athletes, but not elementary school aged kids.

P.S. My cp.'s dream is to cheer at Cheer Athletics. She's 9. Maybe in a few years you can hook me up with a carpool from San Antonio ;)

Austin Cheer Factory had a very strong youth level 2 this past season (won NCA and UCA), but their level 4/5 teams don't stand up to other Texas gyms (CA, Spirit, Champion from Dallas/Ft.Worth, Texas Lonestar, All Star Revolution from Houston, etc.) or the worlds stage in my opinion. They're definitely the most well known Austin gym however. Cheer Station I believe competes at mostly smaller competitions, with 1 or two exceptions where they take a team or two (not the entire program). It seemed that they only had lower level or "rec division" teams last year, though that could be only what I saw on the competition circuit.

(certainly not bad, but technique needs some cleaning up. Your girls aren't looking for level 5 worlds teams quite yet though, so there is certainly potential for the level 5 skills to build in the next few years)

Side note: Aside from cheer, Austin is a great area. The area of South Congress has a bunch of funky shops and food trucks which is a fun experience. The Congress Avenue bridge is neat to see when all of the bats fly into the night from under it. Also, things like going boating on Lake Travis, visiting Barton Springs, and even driving down to Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels are great. I've never gone to the inner space cavern, but that's also in the area. SeaWorld is only a short drive away (San Antonio). One of the best BBQ places in Texas is near there as well (The Salt Lick). You can also get a Texas Sized doughnut at Round Rock Doughnuts:). There's lots of neat stuff around Austin.

I can't think of any 5-7 year olds. Most are older, L5-6 athletes. We have had a few from San Antonio. Several have driven into Austin and then caught rides/picked up people from Austin/Temple/Waco on the way.
