The new school year is right around the corner, which means there will be a TON of opportunities for you to demonstrate why America Needs Cheerleaders! Cheerleaders need to start the year off right by being ambassadors and generating a sense of community within their schools. In high school, my school kicked off the year with a freshmen orientation the week before the first day of classes. In the middle of the day, all of the new freshmen came into the gym for a pep rally.
During the pep rally, the cheerleaders were in charge of teaching the new students the words to the fight song and a few of the game traditions. This way, when it was time for the first football game, everyone in the stands would feel connected and know the words as they cheered on our team!
Cheerleaders can also stand out as the face of their school by attending parent open houses and helping hand out brochures, give directions to classrooms and make all of the new parents feel welcome. Starting a new school can be scary for a lot of people, but seeing a few friendly faces can make all of the difference!
Get your team together this summer and come up with some back to school ideas that show why America Needs Cheerleaders!
