It’s anti- bullying month and just like Tayler said, cheerleaders and dancers are in the PERFECT position to get this message out in our communities! Bullying can happen anywhere, even on your team. Now that the new season has begun, make sure you are taking a stand against bullying on your team and setting an example for all of your new teammates.
Courage- Have the courage to stand up against bullying, even when it’s tough. Sometimes standing up to an older person on your squad can be difficult, but if you stand by and let it happen, you are just as guilty. Talk to that person or bring your coach in for a meeting.
Helping hand- Reach out and lend a helping hand to the member on your squad being bullied and to the bullies themselves. A lot of people want to help the ones getting picked on, but don’t forget that picking on others usually comes from a bigger problem. Reach out the bullies and be a friend to them during their time of need.
Educate- Talk to your teammates about anti-bullying month and what you can do to get involved! Create banners to hang around your school to raise awareness and educate your community.
Example- Sometimes leading by example is the best way to lead your squad. Set an example on your team and make sure that you are never a part of bullying and stand up against it if you see it happening.
Respect- One of the best ways to ensure that you are not a part of any type of bullying is to show everyone an equal amount of respect. Follow the Golden Rule and treat everyone the way that you would like to be treated.
Follow the “CHEER” against anti-bullying this month and every month on your squad in order to set an example for your new teammates, your school and your community!
