Can you explain the difference between NCA and UCA style a little? I have many years before my CPs are college bound but curious.

UCA has a traditional style that focuses on leading the crowd in a competitive setting. NCA, on the other hand, has an all-star style that also features male cheerleaders flying in baskets.
Thanks well that tells me which way my girls will be headed :)

NCA doesn't *feature* males flying in baskets - though you're more likely to see that in NCA than UCA.

UCA is pretty strict in its roles - guys stunt, that's their purpose. You won't see them doing as much jumping and tumbling.

West Virginia University has a small intermediate all girl team (NCA)

That is correct. The only time male cheerleaders fly in the UCA is when they serve as the middle layer in such pyramids like the 2-1 cupie or the 4-3-2 Swedish Falls pyramid.

University of Central Oklahoma has two competitive teams and 5 National titles, also won their first STUNT championship this passed year. Trinity Valley and Navarro are the top junior colleges for NCA and their scores are always higher than the majority of regular 4 year colleges. Hawaii Pacific is rumored to be returning to NCA again. Univ. of Central Arkansas has recently started competing at NCA and has a strong program, coming in second last year. Mizzou also competes NCA, but I'm not sure of their last win. I am not as familiar with UCA teams as I have only cheered in college on NCA teams. Morehead State University and Slipper Rock Univ. are said to be among the top UCA teams every year. Univ of Oklahoma also competes UCA.

my daughter is cheering at Austin Peay State Unversity in Tn. It's a TN state school north of Nashville and they are working hard to be competitive this year.

In California there are...
San Diego State (All Girl I - UCA) They might have a small coed this year???
California Baptist (All Girl II - NCA)
Sacramento State (Small Coed I - UCA) Might also have a new all girl program...

Not too many in Cali.

Doesn't Cal Poly SLO have a competitive squad? Most colleges in California have cheer programs but not that compete at big competitions(ie Most of the UC's, USC, the older and bigger CSU's, etc.)

Yeah, Cal Poly mainly does USA Collegiate Championships, but they also do STUNT.
There are a lot of cheer teams, but they're not super big into competition and usually do USA, which is why I just posted teams that do NCA or UCA.
Also, a lot of big teams have been on and off in competing, like UCLA, Stanford, and Davis. Cal also is revamping their program, so it'll be interesting to see what happens with them in the next few years.
