Anyone ever or know anyone who's shoulder popped out during tumbling? How long did it take to recover?

For a normal person who doesn't have that happen on the regular id say probably a few weeks at the least. I think most doctors go with the 6 weeks return to normal play...but we all know cheerleaders are one of the most stubborn people alive so safely I'd say at least 3-4 weeks.

My daughter's popped out at practice due to landing oddly. Her trainer popped it back in. She iced it and jumped up and started stunting for another hour. We've been icing it. I took her to the emergency room and they told her minimum 2-4 weeks. She told them she'll give them 1 week (STUBBORN). She goes to the orthopedist tomorrow. I'm just wondering what to expect. She'll die if she has to stay out of the gym for 4 weeks

I'm hyper mobile so I've dislocated and popped my shoulder back in myself. It happens to my knees more than anything else and is truly annoying. I do know a few people that have dislocated and they were told absolute minimum was 4 weeks since it can just happen again and you end up doing way more damage I you repeatedly dislocate then if you just rest it. If she can at least not tumble for the 4 weeks that would be best. Good luck tomorrow at the appointment!

Thanks. I'm praying we get good new tomorrow. She's so stubborn. She's in the front for jumps and in the point stunt group. She's afraid of losing her place. Stopping tumbling for a few weeks could be the way to go. She's in a sling right now.

When yours pops out is it really painful?

When mine pops out it's painful for a split second and then it's just sore for a bit but that's because of the "hyper mobility". My knees do it all the time and those hurt way more! But I'm able to just go back in and do stuff although tumbling hurts a bit if it's my shoulder. So maybe she can just not jump for a week and not tumble for a few weeks. Stunting should be ok as long as, if she's a flyer, she's always caught properly. Definitely get the drs opinion though. I was in nursing so I can bet he'll say 4-6 weeks but you meet know. And as you know us cheerleaders are stubborn hahaha I broke my ankle (thought it was just sprained) and competed on it a week later. Had my appendix out and the week after competed (with modifications). My mom doesn't know about the appendix one though lol

She's had her shoulder pop out before in swim. She's also hyper mobile so it's hard. This is the 1st time in cheer. Crazy thing is she is not a flyer so 20 mins after her shoulder popped out she was basing full ups etc.. for about an hour. I couldn't understand it. Right now it's just really sore.

Wait you COMPETED on a broken ankle and after having your appendix removed? Whoa!!!! Serious super powers mixed with adrenalin.

Yes two separate instances but same competition lol I'm convinced it's cursed for me because I sprained my ankle last year before it too. I broke my ankle 4 years ago. They told me it was sprained which I sincerely doubted since it hurt SO much and was like purple but I was on an iag5 and an open 4.2 and this comp you competed twice because it was a one day national hahaha so needless to say it was so sore the next day OMG what a disaster. I found out after worlds that it had been broken because I pushed for an MRI. So I competed on a broken and improperly healed ankle for almost 6 months haha I'm a psycho.

So we're back from the doctor and they allowed her to return to cheer. Doc said no tumbling until she's 100% pain free. He also suggested physical therapy for 2-4 weeks to strengthen her shoulder muscles to prevent it from happening again

I popped my shoulder out of place a few months back, and I never told anyone. Even though it was super painful to tumble, and I had limited flexibility I was too stubborn and determined to stop. I guess about a month later most of the pain was gone. It still bothers me some, but not as much as it used to. After hurting myself so much you would think I would take a break to let it all heal, but I guess I am just too stubborn!

My daughter is the same way luckily I saw it. I REFUSED to allow her to do anything until a doctor Ok'd it. I really didn't want any permanent damage. I realize cheerleaders are stubborn. I'm so glad the doctor released her to go back.

I'm glad yours is healing on your own too.
