So I started cheer when I was nine, and I stopped when I was 12, due to an illness. I was on a junior 3 team (the highest the gym had back then). I'm now 15, and I've missed everything about cheering so much! I desperately want to go back, however I left my old gym on bad terms. I didn't really tell them that I'd left (bad move, I know) and ignored their facebook messages about me coming back. The nearest good gym, other than my old one, is an hour's drive away, and my mom couldn't commit to driving me there. My old gym has improved a lot, and regularly sends dance teams to Worlds, and now has level 4 cheer teams. I'm still sort of connected to them now, as one of the coaches is a teacher at my school, and I know tons of the athletes as most go to my school as well. I want to go back there, but I'm not sure how to do it as I don't want it to be awkward, or have them not accept me back. What should I do??

Try scheduling an appointment with the all-star director and going in to talk to them first. Let them know that you've grown up and will take the commitment to the team seriously. You should be able go gauge how things will go from that.

ok I'll try, thank you!!

I would also suggest talking to your old gym's directors but if things feel iffy, I'm sure there are people in your area that commute to the further gym. You could talk with their director and figure out a carpool option so your mom doesn't have to drive but just pitches in for gas or feeds everyone in the carpool.

Thank you!! I'll see how talking with my old gym goes :)

This is why you should never burn any bridges.

However, I don't think it's fair of them to hold the maturity/actions of a 12 year old against you. A smart business wouldn't turn you away. But, I'd definitely approach someone from the program before you just show up to clear the air and remove any potential hostility. Maybe even talk to the coach you have as a teacher about it.
