Is there a difference between an arabian step-out and a half step-out?
I thought an arabian is a half turn punchfront and a half is performed in a hollow body position, but my friend said they are different words for the same thing and that any backwards half- twisting skill is an arabian.

Winner gets 5 bucks!! Any link that I could use as proof would be awesome! ;)

They are totally different. An arabian is just that, the half turn before the forward flip. The back half is the back flip and then the twist. :)

Yay! Any website that defines them? He is never going to hear the end of this lol

You have your legs straight and you're hollowed in a half and you twist after you flip. For an arabian you're usually either tucked or piked and you twist before you flip.

shoot4thestaws is correct. An true arabian is a 1/2 turn front somersault in the tucked or piked position. A "cheat" Arabian is a RO back Tuck with a 1/2 which is the way most cheerleaders start to learn a true Arabian, because to do it the regular way (punch 1/2 turn THEN front somersault) is scary at first. A Layout 1/2 is hollow body layout position with a twist.
