All-Star How Far Would You Travel For Practice??

Well I guess it sounds like a lot of people travel VERY far...we're blessed to have a great gym in town. Just 10 minutes away...I guess if they didn't offer what my CP needs I would consider traveling but that's a huge commitment!!! I guess I just don't get it...I know the kids love to cheer but I would think that all that driving would take a toll on the kid. It has to get old especially like 2-3 times a week. OMG!!! We're from the Midwest & winters here are crazy. I couldn't imagine doing it in the summer let alone the winter. Who knows one day I may be traveling myself. lol

Yeah the long drives do take a toll, driving home after a weekend of long practices SUCKS! I honestly dont know how I do it lol.

I have a 9 year old on my Youth 3 team that travels 2 hours one way twice a week for practices. Her former gym had her on a youth 2 team and told her she was not "ready" for level 3. Well, she splits center for flying (beautiful body positions, learned full up to prep very quickly) and she's last pass on our level 3 team....I think she's ready. lol

We have at least 7 kids on our senior 5 team that all travel at LEAST 1 1/2 hours one way to practice. One even flies in. :)

People fly into our Illinois gym too. I just can't believe it!!! I guess its got to be a good program if people choose to do that.

I definitely think it's something the KID has to want, too. I know neither of my girls would drive more than an hour to cheer somewhere. They get car sick easily and HATE being in the car long hours. They would be toast by the time they got to practice and would end up hating it. (So we just moved completely hehe ) But if the kid wants it bad enough, I don't think it hurts. All of the kids I know that travel like that are VERY good students and have great time management skills.

My kids really want to cheer at Cali..we make it work...homework in the car....gotta get good grades or it all over...:)

I give my daughter and all the other cheerleaders that spend hours in the car a lot of credit.... You all know how much sacrifice it is to be on an all star cheer team.... Now magnify it again 3x. We just started Sunday practices.... My cp is in a carpool with one other (thank god) and she needs to leave the house on Sunday AM at 7oo am to meet up with a ride. Her practice is 10-12. The other athelete has practice from 11-1. Cp is not returning until around 4 pm. Thats a long day for a 2 hour practice. That totally takes off having sleepovers on Saturday nights or doing much of anything on Sundays. She gets on her bus at 625 am and then gets picked up from school and goes directly to practice returning around 12 midnight.
She loves what she does and never compains. She gets excellent grades and is a hard working cheerleader. People say we are insane and they are probably correct but as long as she is happy, I can not take the opportunity away from her.

Never said Kickdblcj should be going to Cali. I said I would be going to Cali and btw I said CF has NEVER won a World title!!! Never said anything about CF not medaling at Worlds. I said people have their reasons for doing what they do but everything I said was what I would do. I have the right to my opinion too. Never said anything bad about CF and even said no disrespect to you. Have fun and sorry if I got you upset.

OMG!!!! 12 midnight??? That is crazy...but like you said as long as she is happy and keeps her grades up. Hats off to you guys!!

last we drove 5 1/2 to 6 hours to practice stayed the weekend then came home!

EVERYONE should be where they feel happy and content. NO ONE is EVER guranteed a ring..EVER..weather you are from CF, CA or YO MAMA allstars...so just be happy where you are or change and please don't make comments on others decisions...IMO

Wonder if YO MAMA all-stars is hiring.... ;)

around 45 minutes to Rays if my parents had the money and the time to drive me out to marietta.

I luckily travel only 10 maybe 20 minutes to my gym. it's not a bad drive at all. Our level 5 team is made up of kids from both our albany and our syracuse gym. Each week they travel to either albany or syracuse for practice. that alone is 2 and a half hours or so, not including traffic or if you live far away from one of the gyms and on sundays they drive to Utica (about half way between syracuse and albany.) for practice.
