I have question about this. I have friend who's daughter is on a level 5 team. But due to an injury early on in the season they put her on the IR list. She has worked really hard and gotten her tumbling back and thought they were going to put her back on the team. They are going to a comp this weekend where they are hoping to get a bid. now they told her that since she is on the IR she can't compete even if they get a bid. When do they have to turn in their list for the comp (the one this weekend) of what all girls are competeting? and if someone would get hurt between now and worlds (if they get a bid) would she then be able to compete?

Hope this isn't to confusing

A team is allowed to have 10 alternates at Worlds, or 10 people that were not competing with the team when they got the bid. 7 of those alternates had to have competed at the competition with the gym (but not on the Worlds team) at the comp where the bid was received, and 3 can be anyone from anywhere. So if she competes this weekend on any team, she could compete at Worlds as one of the 7 alternates, if not, she can still compete at Worlds as one of the 3.
Short answer: yes, she can still compete at Worlds even if she does not compete this weekend or even any time until Worlds.

Thank you becuase that is not what was told to her. she was told that she was pretty much out for being on S5.

Do those 3 have to be listed as alternates ahead of time or can they come from anywhere anytime. I guess I was thinking they had to be listed as alternates when team competes and gets bid, but maybe that's not right?

I'm like 99.9% sure they just have to be listed on the roster for Worlds, not at the time the bid is received. Some teams get their bid in November, and there's not really any way to know what alternates you might need 5 months later at that point.

They cannot bring anymore athletes than what they qualify with, so maybe they will not let your daughter replace someone, (take someone off) who is on the team already?

I think you're correct. Level 6 is an exception - you submit a list of 10 alternates (from anywhere, not just the gym) when you compete and your worlds team can come from the 24 that competed + the 10 alternates. Because there's no much of an overlap with level 6, they don't do the whole "you must have competed with another team at the same gym at the same competition" thing.

But for level 5, those 3 alternates can be any Joe Schmoe off the street, as long as they were released from their previous gym, if they're from another gym.

As well, at least with International 6 teams, you can only compete at Worlds with the same amount (or fewer) that what you got a bid with. For example, if you only have 22 athletes on the floor when you win a bid, you can only out 22 on the floor at Worlds, even if you have alternates who could fill it up to 24. At least, that has been the case in previous years. We haven't had to worry about it in the last couple of years.

I think that is true for any Worlds division, u bring what u qualified with.

Yep, you can bring less, but you can't bring more.
So if a small team had 20 on the roster and one was injured at the time they earned their bid so they competed with 19, the injured athlete cannot compete with them at Worlds even though she was on the roster at the bid comp?

No, if the day they get the bid they had 19 athletes in the floor then that is the max they can bring to worlds

She can if she replaces someone else, the team just can't have more than 19 on the floor at Worlds.
