cheerUPDATES, the social media platform that started out keeping us on our toes and in the know in Twitter-time is making Worlds history with its launch of a new website that founder Doug Yeager says is a game changer.
"This changes the way that cheer is documented, on a massive scale; a scale that is for months in the making," he said in an interview after Sunday's launch of www.cheerUPDATES.com.

"We've done social media so well but if you miss the moment it happens, it's gone," he said. "This new website provides a shelf that you can access at your leisure on your own schedule."

cheerUPDATES was the first to capture the immediacy of social media when it seemingly showed up out of nowhere six years ago. Tweets about a Worlds team's performance, deductions or HIT were posted seemingly as soon as the team left the mat, and of teams at multiple competitions happening simultaneously.
The original cheerUPDATES account began as a simple fan account reporting on the details of various cheerleading events, teams, athletes and news within the spirit industry. In more than five years, while fulfilling a niche in the sport, it amassed an online multimedia community of over 450,000 followers across Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, & Facebook making it the leading source for comprehensive and accurate cheerleading news worldwide.
For awhile "Who is cheerUPDATES" was all abuzz. It not only was posting about performances, it was doing it faster than the official event producer's were able to post. It turned out that while Yeager did most of the posting, he had an army of others distributed all over the comp country posting the same.

cheerUPDATES Tweets wont go away, instead the website is a way to expand on those Tweets, Yeager says, pictured with Kelly Smith-Helton, owner, Cheer Extreme Allstars-Raleigh as the two attended The Majors Gala.
"I'm excited and a little nervous about when we get controversial," he explained. "We were pigeonholed to 240 characters on Twitter but now I can go into depth with my thoughts, feelings and reactions."
But this isn't the game changer, Yeager said.
"If that's all they think we are, they're going to be surprised,"
"We are finally at a position to bridge the history of the sport with the recent ascension of the sport and report on it with all the stats, data and backstory, much like you'd see on ESPN or any professional sports broadcast," he continued.
In that regard cheerUPDATES will be making Worlds history.
"That's always been our goal," DJ said, "Fill the need that is not being met. This is long overdue."
Writing all the copy himself, and backed up by the same cheerUPDATES team for competition coverage, the website has already produced some great stories.
A list of "30 Breakout Athletes to Watch at Worlds 2018" joins feature stories like "REMATCH! | AN EPIC SENIOR SMALL ALL GIRL BATTLE" documenting the competition potential between Cheer Extreme SSX from Raleigh, NC, Woodlands Elite Generals from The Woodlands, TX, and ICE Lady Lightning from Aurora, IL.

But true to its origins, cheerUPDATES' will be on the spot on the new website with Worlds Central, Summit Central and D2 Central with immediate schedules, rankings and competition day information in addition to its social media we've grown accustomed.
"There willl be a mix of stories and standings with breaking news," Yeager said. "You can expect our footprint to expand a little bigger and better while organically growing to meet the needs of the cheer industry."
