I saw that , but I just don't think level 3 or 4 warrants picking up your whole life and moving senior year of high school, particularly if there are closer options for those levels that would only require a commute. Maybe for a worlds team, but even then it would be hard for me to swallow. It would have to be something special indeed.

Do you mind sharing what state you're from? This might help with some of the high school rules/options you may have for moving.

You probably just gave people enough info to identify your gym. You can edit out location of you would like.

I guess my opinion lies somewhere in the middle of "don't risk it" and "life's too short to not take risks". I made the decision 7 1/2 years ago to move my family from Illinois to Oklahoma for cheer. We have not looked back and have not regretted it for one second. However, my girls were 7 and 9, not going into their senior year of high school.

I think the only person that can really answer your question for you, is you. If you are THAT passionate about having the opportunity to cheer on a higher level team before you age out...then it might be a great idea for you. I do believe in the "you'll never know until you try" philosophy as long as you understand the pros and cons of the decision. What's the worst that can happen? You don't make the team you hoped for and decide to stay at home? Not the end of the world. What's the best that can happen? You make a team that will push you to be your best and have a great lasting memory of your senior year in high school.

What you need to make sure of is that you aren't putting this idea into a fantasy world dream. If you do decide to move for the year...there WILL be things that make you angry, frustrated, sad, disappointed, etc. etc. You can't expect it to be all butterflies and rainbows. But if you know that going in, then there's no harm in going for it!! It's one year...and at the end of the day if you give it a try and you don't like it...home is only 3 hours away. :)

I think my mind is just unable to get past the academic and social aspect of things. Senior year is a big year, and I couldn't imagine starting afresh at a new school, moving away from my friends, and not having a support network to get through the crazy time of college applications. Having new cheer opportunities would, of course, be great, but I personally wouldn't be able to get past the other stuff.

This year is my senior year, and over the summer I move as district over. It was tough decision, but I was not happy at my old school. At my new high school I was able to take a harder load, but I had to take a cooking class which took up a space for another class. I ended up not doing allstars as my gym was a lot father and a heavier courses. I ended up making my high school team where I became friends with many of them. Unfortunately, I landed weird on a dead mat and tore my meniscus, which I just got surgery on Tuesday. I am happy with my choice at moving. However, I recommend you make a pro and cons of moving. Its a tough decision and make sure its a financial wise decision. As much as you love cheerleading, make sure it will be a wise decision. Wish you good luck in whatever you end up deciding! :)

Remember your family would also be making sacrifices. When spouses live apart it can put a strain on their marriage. Do you have siblings? How will it impact your whole family?

For many schools, tryouts are in the spring, you would have to transfer at semester and start at your new school in January in order to be eligible.

I think they allow you to tryout if you don't attend the school yet. because I've seen people that are moving send video tryouts and also the upcoming freshman aren't enrolled yet so I don't think that should be an issue

I personally feel it is a bad idea, but from your responses it sounds like your mind is already made up. Since it was your Dad's idea, you shouldn't need to convince him. Next step would be to visit the gym, high school, and talk to the Coaches.
