There's so much criticism going around for Taylor Swift's new "controversial, racist" video, but apparently it's totally socially acceptable for Nicki Minaj to give Drake a lap dance in hers. (I didn't see that video and don't plan to- I just ate- but that's what I've heard. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.)

Meh. The players gon play play play and the The haters gon hate hate hate

I personally hate the Anaconda video and I hate the lyrics to Anaconda (I let him hit because he slang cocaine?)...girl bye.

I watched the Taylor Swift video and I was just like "wow she's awkward and can't dance....she's me."

Anyway. In conclusion. Get money.

Anyone complaining that a TS video is racist is devaluing the word racist.

the hate or backlash is coming from the fact that the prima ballerinas are 100% white in pretty white tutus and then the girls twerking are mostly black in booty shorts with big hoop earrings (there is at least one white girl, but i digress.) stereotyping? yes. racist? i don't think it was intentional.

Really?! People want to complain about EVERYTHING. The girl is having a little fun, let her live.

This is coming from someone who can't stand Taylor Swift music, lol. Her video is obviously poking fun at the fact that homegirl can't dance.

Nicki Minaj's song and video is trrrrraaaaaassshh.

I am shimmying for Nicki Minaj's video being too trashy for daytime viewing and anyone under 18.... If Nicki Minaj going for an older audience, she should not have her "music" playing during PrimeTime...

Sorry I have not watched or purposely hear or view any of Taylor Swift's music, she is not my cup of tea at all, so whenever her face or songs come on, I change the channel real quick!

Maybe those ballerinas were the best of the ones that tried out? Maybe the same for the twerking girls?

And if she'd had a mix, she probably would have been criticized for being unrealistic.

If people don't like her or don't like her videos, fine. But throwing around "racist" has gotten to the point that it doesn't mean anything real and means whatever the person using it wants it to mean.

It's really sad.

She also traditionally has had black back up singers, and dancers. And so okay the ballerinas were white, but the other dancers showcased were not.

Nicki is an adult (as is Taylor) but a grown woman. She makes rap music. Always. The video to me was interesting, because men objectify women all the time in their videos. The video is literally full of women, save for Drake at the end. In the video she doesn't let him touch her. I personally was inspired believe it or not. She was confident, she was 'sexy' and it was fun, silly. J.Lo did something similar in her music video for I Luh Yuh Papi, where she objectified the man. Women in music are trying to change the game and their roles. I love it.
I'll have to agree to disagree on this. I don't like most rap, but even I can appreciate clever stuff and good beats (which are hard to come across nowadays) even if it is profane sometimes. For example, I can't stand Lil Wayne but you can't argue he's got talent. (Real g's stay silent like lasagna: who would think of that?!) However, I can't give Nikki that benefit of the doubt because her stuff is just stupid. (Anyone who disagrees with me, feel free to read the lyrics to any of her songs online... *sighs and shakes head*)
Also, I don't think she was trying to nor did she send any message like J.Lo did (I thought I Luh You Papi was kinda cute). What I gathered from Anaconda is "boys don't want you unless you have a large butt". (And I quote: Where my fat a** big b****** in the club? F the skinny b****** in the club.) Just because it's not a man objectifying a woman doesn't mean the woman's not objectifying herself. As someone who's decidedly not skinny (but not super curvy), I'm so over people calling skinny girls unattractive, thinking their attitudes are preventing anorexia or something. (I once heard a guy say, "Why are you exercising? Being skinny isn't cute anymore. Guys want curvy girls." Wut?) What if they're naturally that skinny and don't starve themselves to be that way? And curvy girls, why should society have to decide if your size is "in" for you to feel beautiful? I think no one should try to change their weight to be more attractive to someone else (even though we've all done it). Sorry, rant done.
As for the video being sexy: Nikki has a great body, whether or not it's all real. Her face looks plastic to me but that's just one girl's opinion. I guess everyone has a different interpretation of the word sexy, because I think it's someone who is classy (read: dresses and carries him/herself appropriately), has ambition, and is comfortable with their self and their appearance. Spreading one's legs and gyrating in tight leather clothing isn't sexy to me, but to each their own. And hey, if Nikki's making more than some people do in their entire lives to do just that, so what? Keep doing you, girl.

Wow Girl, I am applauding your entire assessment of Nikki Minaj and I had to give it up to you more than just 1 shimmy... I noticed that many of her lyrics are so juvenile, immature and really not that thought provoking... I have been skimming through or changing the channel when she is on the screen. On some of the most inspirational songs that she collaborated on, her rhythms are always dropped because of the irrelevance of her contents. Take for example, Alicia Keyes inspirational song 'Girl on Fire' they had to drop her rap off the song. The same happened with Beyonce tune, 'Flawless' remixed they added her rhythms to the song and again, irrelevant to what the original song was about... There are other songs that her rhythms are deleted off and these things are happening to her lately... I guess, she had reached that point to stay relevant, she must exploit her body.,.

This kinda reminds me of when my Jr. Highschool was criticized for doing The Wiz as their musical one year and all of the lead parts went to white students. Parents were up in arms about how "racist" it was because the ONLY parts given to black student were chorus parts. The news had a field day with the story. Later you find out that the only people who auditioned for the lead roles were white....

I agree with the screaming. Like its one thing to scream if they tell you to or at the end of the song for a second or two, but don't scream the entire time.

A girl in front of my kept putting her sign up every time that one of them came down the little side ramp by us blocking the view of the people behind her. Um its the handicap section. The people are in wheelchairs, or can't stand up. If I can't see over your sign, they can't either.

We were so worried we were going to get stranded downtown since the last train was at 12:30 back.

I was glad we were in front of our section - no signs. We could see everything clear as day. My sister did great - got us awesome seats!

The girl behind us screamed herself hoarse. But she was crazy, completely crazy. She sounded like she was being attacked by an axe murderer.

Fortunately we can't get stranded because our train runs all night, and we could just grab a cab because it's only about 15 minutes away. I was wondering how all the people were getting home so late!

I agree with all of this except the part about Nicki's stuff being stupid. Yes Anaconda is stupid...it's terrible in fact.

But her Pink Friday? That album has some really self reflective, interesting and pretty songs ( for what it is).....like Dear old Nicki and even Fly.
