I think it's easier too when you are at an out of town competition. Staying in hotels, going to restaurants, etc you get a little more "down" time in what is usually a cheerleader saturated area. And be brave, don't be afraid to go up and introduce yourself. :D

I will be at NCA this year with my wife, Cheer2Win.

Is it within your powers to demand she come back to the boards?

(Though somehow I doubt she takes orders from anyone...:p)

We should all wear name tags of our usernames so we can find eachother at competitions! It's sooooo hard, especially at cheersport, nca, and worlds!!
haha we should design the "official fierceboard name tag" that people can print out and bring to the comps so people know what to look for :p

well for jamlive - chicago this weekend , my team is wearing lime green bows to support st. jude's children's hospital . after our performance, we're suppose to try and trade or just give another cheerleader our bow to try and make new friends throughout other gyms. :)

I am with you in wishing there was more interaction between gyms. However, I think one explanation may be that when you get to the venue before going on, your mind is completely on getting ready to perform, so there is tension and just not the most conducive environment for chit- chat, the team needs to focus. After performing, most are ready to leave and chill until the next day. (and unfortunately, some may not be in the best moods if they busted. ) That is one of the reasons I am such a fan of the gym trading pins, it is a good excuse to go and talk to members of other gyms - hopefully without seeming like a creeper. ;)

I have seen gyms and/or teams socialize at comps. It only takes the gym owners or coaches to be open for it and maybe set up a social meet ahead of time. I wish it happened more often.

Individually or in smaller groups it is very common for cheerleaders to introduce themselves, ask about another program (Where are you from? What is your gym like? etc. . .) and ask to take a picture. I think asking to take a picture with kids from other gyms is the easiest excuse to walk up and meet people. It's just like pin trading, but it's free and you can post it on your Facebook.

I'll mention it, but don't hold your breath!
