A sad day indeed. He definitely influenced a lot of lives with his passion and his work.

Oh my god, I'm heartbroken. I'm glad he lived a long life.

Was he 89 or 90?

My heart just hurts. I'm so thankful for everything he accomplished. Without him, we wouldn't have the sport we love today, I would never have met some of my best friends, and I would never have the opportunity to work with kids. I owe this man so much, and I've never met him.

Our theme for our summer camps this year is "Do Something!" to encourage cheerleaders to become leaders in their community. Herkie was truly an exemplary man and leader in our industry. I decided I wanted his constant reminder with me throughout the rest of my summer so I did this.

Rest in peace Herkie. I promise to be the best Herkie jumper that you've ever seen. Thank you.

Funny story but Herkie went to school at SMU and my orientation group my freshman year was "Herkimer" and we had to do the Herkie as part of our skit in front of ALL the freshmen and none of us knew how because none of us were flexible enough. So we all kind of jumped and hoped it looked somewhat like a herkie haha. So we were like WE ARE HERKIMER! and did our almost there Herkie aand everyone laughed at us. Needless to say we won zero skit awards haha but still to this day it cracks up.

We are asking that in honor of our beloved founder, please post a picture of a Herkie for Herkie on all of your social media outlets. #Herkie to share it with us or tag @NCAUpdates on Twitter or @NCACheer on Instagram!
