Personally "Judges Choice" is shady, and with an industry that makes millions of dollars off the backs of us parents, the process should be more transparent. I am seriously questioning the ethics in some of the process. Scores should always be posted for everyone to see after day one and then after awards the following day. This monopoly called All-Star Cheer lacks transparency. What's the big secret it's a competitive sport that uses a score! Why are only level 5 scores talked so much about? It's subjective enough, but when it comes to Bids if the Grand Champs of that level already have a bid, then the next highest scoring team in that level should get it. Of course, I have no idea what the next highest score was for that division; but I heard the bid went to a team that scored lower than us in that same division, different sub-group. BTW the team that got the bid was originally in the same sub-group but got moved last minute. Are the kids crushed, yup they are! They feel they earned that bid because they scored higher, wouldn't you? #shady #cgnd #lastyearinallstar

This drives me crazy. I can appreciate Judge's Choice if say youth 1 small has 40+ teams already with bids and Senior 4 large has only 2 teams with bids. I also think scores should be made public. I agree on scores, they are so super secret now and that is not good. There should be transparency so it doesn't look like they are being shady!

I can certainly appreciate looking at the depth of the field, but to give it to a team in the same division that scored lower really burns my pom pom. [emoji23] The team that received the bid was tight and executed their routine; We hit, our tempo and higher difficulty increased our overall appeal and ultimately score. IMHO
To a degree it's subjective I understand that, but call the cops there's been a robbery. [emoji23]

Did the 2 teams/divisions have the same judging panel?

Even still, with comparative scoring, the teams are compared to the teams within their respective A/B split division. So it's really hard to compare scores between 2 different divisions. Part of the reason why I'm usually ok with judge's choice when it comes to bids.

The issue is compounded by the fact that every EP has different bid criteria and most of the time I can't find the bid declaration online so it's even more of a mystery come Monday night. We've been to events where only winners in their division can get the bid. So even if 1st and 2nd place in a division out score the winner of another division the second place team won't get the bid over the winner of the lower scoring division. Conversely, I've been to events where second place in a division gets an at large and the 1st place winner got the paid.

A couple weeks ago we witnessed a team placed 5th & receive a bid over a team placing first. IMHO a team placing 5th really has no business at Summit. I wouldn't want to pay for my child to go to Summit if we couldn't even win our local comp. Some teams just like to go for the experience I guess.
Hang in there. My CPs team last year was passed over for bids time & time again only to get one in March & win rings at Summit.

Isn't that why they now do Summit bids Monday so routines can be reviewed by the same panel of judges? or so we hope????

The awarding of summit bids is getting more and more crazy. You never know from comp to comp how they're given out. bid declarations are never clear. If my team gets a bid or doesn't get one I'm fine with it as long as it's done fair. But it doesn't seem to be the case. Worlds bids are so easy to come by. But summit is another story.

Thank you. This is a relatively small industry and when things like this happen I question the conflicts of interest some judges may have, there's politics in AS. Have they worked for certain gyms in some capacity, or are friends with certain gym owners what bias are they carrying through the comp? The judges should be reviewed for conflicts of interest. #sorrynotsorry Like I said it is a multiple million dollar industry on the backs of all of us.

If this bid would've went to a higher scoring team in our division I could certainly understand but it didn't, They won group A, we won group B and outscored them. They got bid along with a few others from that same gym. We were the only ones who were "National Champions" at this comp from our gym and imho deserved that bid.

Im assuming you are talking about CJA J2? I believe they only received one summit bid from this event. Either way, a group of adults who are qualified to make the decision chose them. It may not always make sense to parents, but we can be a little bias.

Don't you think there should be a standard in Bid Awards? It's not about the teams it's really about the process and as paying customers of a service I question the ethics/conflicts of interest in that process. It's definitely a service since Varsity doesn't want it to be a sport. If it was an organized sport then there couldn't be 100's of "National Champions." This is another reason why Summit bids should be standard. We should demand as a collective group for transparency from all producers of these competitions. It's a monopoly and sometimes power needs a check and balance system.

I don't think there can be a standard for bids until there is a standard for scoring. With comparative scoresheets and subjective interpretation of even things like difficulty, you can't just use scores to determine bids. Now if a 2nd place team had gotten a bid over a 1st place team in the exact same division, now that I wouldn't agree with. But I think reviewing the routines to determine who should get the bids instead of going solely by score is the best way to do it right now.

are the scores visible for BATC, cause I've looked everywhere and can't seem to find them?
