Here is a little history about us. My daughters (2 of them) attended a gym for 3 years. This gym is a very good level 1 and level 2 gym. They were on the level 3 team at the gym and normally come in the bottom two at almost all the competitons. So the girls wanted to take a break. Plus my youngest daughter got dropped numerous times in the same stunt group doing a tick tock. One of my best friends still goes to this gym and when i told her that we were thinking of going to another gym when we come back she was floored. She said it's not about winning it's just about being committed and being loyal to the gym.

I really don't agree. This is competitive cheer and we are looking for a gym that really pushes the girls and gives them some great coaching. The drive to the gym will be about 1 hour compared to 20 minutes. But in my eyes it is so worth it. I don't think that she will stop being my friend over this but my daughter does not want to go back to the old gym.

Plus their attitude for the 1st comp of the year is basically lets get out there and complete the routine.

I don't see a problem with changing gyms if you believe it's what is right for your family. As long as you finish out the season and your commitment to the team, you are a paying customer and it's completely ok to take your children and your money elsewhere. I have a grocery store down the block but I drive a little further to do my shopping because I like that one better and I feel I get a better deal. It's the same idea to me.

You have to do what is best for your girls. Of course they should b challenged, learn new skills and we all want a team that has a chance to place well. We have been that team that prays not to b last and it is not fun.

Changing gyms is just part of the sport. You pay good money and you don't want your children to just be challenged but you you want them to be challenged and properly coached. While I do agree it's not just about winning, it is about athletes feeling confident when they take the mat and feeling like they at least have a fighting chance. First comp is often all about seeing what the judges think of a routine and what needs to be fine tuned or changed completely. Our routines always change after the first comp, if they didn't, I'd be concerned.
Good luck in your decision.
