No, really, I'm wondering. Our gym has x number of coaches. Most of them already coach more than one team. That's the only reason that I can think of why they wouldn't want to make 2 small beast teams rather than 1 large. That, and @fameousmom 's theory of lack of space.

Well now that we have Famous Athletics up here it'll be even WORSE!!! :) Good thing I already have a name or I'd have to be something like "Used-to-be-FAMEous-but-now-I'm-Famous-Mom"

I think you probably don't have the first idea what you're talking about here.

I see what you mean and that bothers me too. I'd rather be put on a lower team and if I do indeed gain another skill then move me up. I'd rather move up then move down. Plus I'd rather tumble too. It was always so awkward as a mini (then peewee) just crouching down while everyone tumbled for a billion 8 counts hahah. You start to feel useless after awhile.

I agree with what everyone is saying that there's more to cheerleading than just tumbling. But at the same time, I have to say that girls do improve as the season progresses. If Susie has beautiful ticktocks and one-legged double downs, but only does a full with a light spot, who's to say she won't eventually get that skill by the time competition season comes around?

Although I completely agree with the title. Some teams need to stop slacking with their tryouts and dumping girls on teams just because.

I think it depends on the coaching style...some are really good at getting kids who are "almost there" to achieve their potential.

i agree that cheerleading doesn't always have to be about tumbling+ i think it is the toughest decision for the coaches to predict if the athlete will be devoted to the team enough that they can progress/achieve the tumbling for the team that they were originally placed on and achieve higher level tumbling for the next season.

That may be the only tumbling she performed in the routine, but I was under the impression she had a full.

i think it's a lot about potential. sometimes when exposed to a new gym with better instruction a girl/boy could get better with their training even though at try outs they don't have the skills necessary right away. they could have a tuck now but with the help of better coaching could get a full in 2 weeks! i think they should give those kids that have potential a deadline to get the skill with hard work & lots of practice with better coaches offerred at the new gym

I think it's important to remember that certain kids have other qualities/skills that make them an asset to their team, as others have already pointed out. If I have a kid who's always worked their tail off at everything, but doesn't have a tumbling skill yet- I don't have a problem spotting them for team placements. ESPECIALLY if it's a kid that's really great in stunts, jumps, etc. Then again, we are a small gym so we don't have lower level teams at each age group, so it's not a huge problem for us... :)

Maddie has a full i just dont think they like to use it in tumbling that often

She does have a RO BHS full, I've heard that she doesn't thrown it in the running tumbling because she doesn't need to (won't earn them additional points), and so she can rest before her showcase stunt. Not sure if that's true though, but makes sense.

I get annoyed when coaches/teams make too many exceptions.
If the requirement for the team is a FULL, then those athletes should all have fulls. No if, ands, or buts.
