I had tryouts yesterday and I wasn't able to tumble to my full ability considering I hurt my shoulder this past week. Today they're taking all of their level 5 athletes and doing "callbacks." Anyone that wasn't invited, is on a lower level. They know I have all of their level 5 requirements so is it fair that they're putting me on a Junior 4 team for the 3RD time even when the girls at the callbacks don't have fulls?

Well, just because you don't make level 5 TODAY doesn't mean you can't push yourself these next few months to prove to your coaches that they should bump you up! Just keep working and your time will come(:

Maybe they need you on the junior 4 team for a certain reason! Perhaps you're a good base or strong back spot. My coach told me once, "I competed at Worlds without a full; cheerleading is not all about tumbling and I am living proof of that." I don't mean to insult you in any way by that, but there could always be a reason like poor attitude or bad jumps or something. I can see from your avatar that you're from Georgia All-Stars and all you can really do now is be a good sport and give them a reason to be impressed! I know what it's like to not be on the team you wanted and I know girls who have felt that way as well, ESPECIALLY this season. If you're eligible for a junior team, that means you've still got time to compete level 5 and qualify for Worlds (or be put on JuCo5). Be patient! Your time will come. For now you can focus on leading your team and perfecting your skills.

Yes. It's cheer. You have to perform at tryouts like during competition.

Don't be discouraged or give up hope, like @cheeeeer93 just stated, many things change over the summer. People don't keep the skills they tried out with, you can work hard and get healthy, people move. . .

This is not about fair it's life, so turn into something positive for yourself

I don't think publicly posting this is helping your chances any...

I agree. It's not, and it's my first clue that you're not ready for a level 5 team. When someone tells me that they're angry they didn't get to advance (no matter if it's horseback riding, on the job, etc), it's usually my first clue they have no business advancing. If someone comes to me and asks for feedback so that they can improve next time, I'll be happy to provide that feedback. I'll also keep an eye on them and help them on that path to advancement.

There is much more to level 5 cheering than tumbling, and your coaches know this. Trust them to make the best decisions for not only the team, but you as well.

Sweetie, I know you are upset because you didn't get on the team you thought you should be on, but broadcasting it on a public board, isn't going to help you at all. I would suggest talking to your parents and coaches and ask them why they put you on a J4. You may be surprised by what they say. They may have a lot of younger and inexperience girls coming to the team and need a leader who has done J4 before or you may be a beast flyer, backspot or base and they need you for a certain spot. Or they may be considering your injury and don't want you to hurt yourself even further. The best advice I can give as a mom, is to work extremely hard this summer. The skills you already have, make them perfect. Skills you don't have, try to get them. Be a leader in and outside of practices and show your coaches that you are ready for level 5. I am giving you the same advice I would give my own daughter. I wish you all the best this season and hope you do well on whatever team you will be placed on.

I mean, I'm not upset about it. I'm just so confused by it. And I was on J5 at the beginning of the season and then they bumped me down to J4 when another girl with the same skills came in after me. They put me on J4 because they needed my basing. I'm ready to move on to level 5 once again and they've even told me so. I just don't get it..

I think your coaches are the ones you should be having this conversation with. Approach them respectfully and they should respond the same.

Then go to your coaches and calmly explain to them, what you just told me and make sure you pick the right time and place to do it. Come in early to practice and ask your coaches if you could talk to them either now or after practice. Explain to them that you aren't upset with your team placement, but you just want to know why you are on J4 this year and then ask them what do you need to do to be eligible for J5. I would leave out that you were bumped down a level when another girl came in, because that just seems like pointing fingers. Sometimes, it's very confusing why coaches do the things they do, but trust that you have great coaches and they only want to do the best for you. :)
