Can I ask a really basic question? I know if I looked I could find stuff on this in other threads but I am more interested in the Why?

Is the biggest block to having a Universal Score Sheet the fact that the 3 major brands can't commit to either a category scoring system or a panel judging system? Is there not a way to combine the two effectively? Why is this such a major stumbling block?

Why could you not have a set of judges scoring in each category and a panel of three scoring all portions of the routine and pull those scores together? I must be missing something major because this really doesn't seem that hard? I get that each Brand has a "Look" like rewarding maxed out difficulty or rewarding clean etc... but don't you think it would all have a way of evening out if you combined them?

Am I being naive because I really don't understand the problem. If this is one of the things that make cheer look less credible don't you think the industry should be up for this challenge?

I 100% agree with you!!
It would certainly make a coaches job a whole lot easier!!

The biggest road block that I have found is that most EPs/brands feel that their scoresheets/scoring system differentiates them from their competitors and draws teams to them. I have to say, I have definitely prefered certains EPs over others because of their scoring systems, so it definitely makes sense to me. However, I would like to see a universal system for about a billion different reasons.

Am I the only one that thinks all comps should reward for difficulty AND clean...not either/or, because the one with the highest difficulty that's razor sharp should win any competition every time....that's what I'd like a universal grid to do because I think weve all seen the team I just mentioned NOT win due to some quirky weight in varying score sheets.

Nope you not the only one...:chestbump:

AMEN to that!!!!!

I am a little bit shocked that more people have not chimed in on this...I must be missing something. Being so low on the totem pole makes it easy for me to voice an opinion. Does speaking out and voicing an opinion for or against what USASF believes some how jeopardize a career. I have no career in cheer so...there ya go. ;)

I am pro singular governing body and if USASF is going to be the one...I support them. BUT I also think they don't want a bunch of people just shaking their heads. they want to hear what people are saying and thinking. Ok I will stop now.

More people would comment if it hadn't been discussed so much already I think. It's been talked about so much with no resolution in sight.
There are just too many EP's to get to agree on a universal scoresheet. I think it will be years before this ever happens.

There are also a LOT of EP's that give out Worlds bids, not just the "major 3" and they all use their own scoresheets to judge those teams going after a bid. If they can't even use the same scoresheet to handle awarding Worlds bids to level 5 and 6 teams that are all attending the same competition (Worlds) then a universal scoresheet for all levels at all competitions would be even more difficult to agree on.

Scoring systems are not as cut and dried as people seem to think. There are a lot of pros and cons to each.

I think there are steps moving that way, the process is just much slower than most prefer.

Sadly I am just coming to realize that without a governing body deciding to step up and guide our immature sport, nothing will really change. There have been some great ideas discussed on this board but most of it comes down to a governing body who will actually govern (universal scoresheets, athlete registration, improvements in judging, etc.)

As for the universal scoresheet, at this point I don't care if the "wrong" one is implemented, ANY standardization would be beneficial. I am even OK with EPs having their own weightings if they want, but the base scoring should e
be universal (of course assuming the weightings are released well ahead of time to allow gyms to choose competitions based on the weightings.)

You are right...it has been talked about and talked about and talked about again. I think I jumped back on this because people talk about cheer not being a sport because it's not credible because we have no governing body or universal score sheet. It is like this big vicious circle but no one really wants to go there. If the USASF can say no more crop tops....why can they not say-----> Here's your score sheet....just sayin ;)
