Exactly. They are now guaranteed worlds teams without bids will be spending in extra comps trying to get in 5 of these.

I'm sure it was nuts! And only keeps getting worse. But that's ok... your gym can brag "they went to Worlds" (just don't do the $/minute calculation like I did year 1 at Worlds)
I know in the past, there have been very good teams that have struggled to receive the bids they deserve, and bad teams are going to make it to worlds, with or without this new program. Then are they really good enough to be a contender at World's?
I plotted the cities where these comps will be taking and

Not that I was surprised, but I really wished they would have included a few more opprotunities for the Midwest teams to get bids since I am assuming they have less bid comps than atleast the east coast teams. Theyre the ones who have to travel the furthest to get a bid. But that's where the money and teams are so...
Happy though to see non-Varsity comps in there. There's a small glimmer of light.
ETA: Sorry for the potato quality pic. Yikes. Not sure how to fix that since on my phone it looks fine...?
The only intent here is more money for Varsity.

I actually disagree. If anything, I think it would actually help the non-Varsity events. At least half of those brands offering worlds bids are not Varsity owned and the only EP's I've seen promote this so far have been IEP's.
Isn't varsity in charge of USASF or at least has some common board of directors etc. In that case, worlds would benefit varsity in making more money off of worlds
I looked at USASF annual report (which the last one they have up is 2014) and in 2014 worlds made almost 1.5 million AFTER accounting for USASF's expenses for that competition. So yeah I'd say it's a money makerEver since USASF paid off it's kickstart loan from Varsity, they have claimed there is no involvement with them. USASF probably uses Varsity's "in" with Disney to get Worlds there, so maybe Varsity makes some money off of that? Probably not enough to make it really worth their time though. I just don't see how anyone could consider this a money maker if they're giving out $50-$75k in paid bids, I highly doubt they're making that up in incoming registrations. It would be really poor use of time and resources to make very little ROI.
What does the accounting say for admissions (not athlete but fans/parents)? Not sure how they account for their share versus Disney's on the passes though. Ever do the math on the cash only admissions (not at Worlds but other comps)? It is quite enlightening. I used very conservative numbers one year at NCA and an independent source with knowledge confirmed my estimates.I looked at USASF annual report (which the last one they have up is 2014) and in 2014 worlds made almost 1.5 million AFTER accounting for USASF's expenses for that competition. Don't even get me started on the cash only admissions. What does the accounting say for admissions (not athlete but fans/parents)? They lump everything together and just list their profit. It does say this is after accounting for all of USASF's cost. What does the accounting say for admissions (not athlete but fans/parents)?
