All-Star Videoing Competitions With A Go Pro?

Have any of you used these, with success, to video competitions? We're thinking of getting one. My daughter would have fun with it but I'm hoping for more uses than just playing around.

The GoPros I have seen have very wide angle lenses - which is great for filming 1st person action shots, but not great for filming routines in the normal sense.

She's 15. I don't know what all she wants to do with it but she did put it on her head with the strap and did tucks on the trampoline yesterday. Lol
