I still can't believe they booed the guy from France who got 2nd in pole vault as he was getting his medal. That was just wrong.

Neither did any of the three 100m hurdle girls. In fact, I haven't seen anyone from the US today put their hand over their heart. WOW WHAT TERRIBLE PEOPLE. :rolleyes:

Yep, I was just coming to post that they didn't either, but I wouldn't be surprised if that was partly in solidarity consciously or unconsciously....especially after what Briana said while getting the medal.


It's absolutely crazy that people have been not doing it all along, but the second Gabby does it we're revoking citizenship

I think the difference is that Gabby is a gymnast and the gymnasts (like the skaters at the winter games) are "princesses". Hence they are held to a higher standard. Everyone else is pretty much a "jock".

Eta: I'm not saying the different expectations/higher standard are ok...just saying I think this is a large part of what happens.

To add to this, if it were Gabby on the podium alone it likely wouldn't have stuck out as badly as it did. She was up there with a group of 5 and she was the single person, out of the 5 who didn't do it. So not only did she not do it, now everyone has this picture where she's the 'oddball' as further proof for the hatred they may have already had for her.

I definitely agree with this statement 10,000 shimmies...Had Gabby was not in the back of all of the Final 5, all crossing their hearts, she will not had stuck out like a "sore thumb." Furthermore, the fact that all the athletes that first week were crossing their hearts too, I actually thought that an USOC memorandum had been issued telling the athletes about the flag salute protocol and Gabby just did not get that memorandum and Aly, (Cap'n) failed in someway...:wham:

What do you think she is held to a higher standard?

Just speaking for myself, the confusion on how she made the team and flat out hatred towards Gabby for making the team to begin with was not subtle by any means so I think a lot of people went into the Olympics ready to pull her apart. She didn't smile here, she was too serious there...etc, etc, and then the flag thing happened and it was just more fuel to the fire previously started. I don't think Gabby could have done or not done any particular thing and her Olympic experience been much different---she hits her sh*t and it's not good enough because she didn't smile; she doesn't hit in event finals and it's "well she shouldn't have made the team anyway..." The poor girl didn't have a shot from the second her name was announced at the end of trials. For that reason alone, my heart breaks for her a lot.

Feigen payed a hefty fine/donation thing to get to leave the country (around 11k I think) and I feel certain US Swimming will suspend them all. Lochte and Feigen probably more so. I know Phelps was suspended 6 months in 2014 for a second DUI, and I would expect something similar or longer.

(edit: I'm in now way sticking up for them, just going off what I know)
