some teams can pull off hitting the score sheets well, and still have an entertaining routine by adding in a little flair here and there within certain parts, then they're are others that only care about the score and have a boring looking routine. i could name one that on one side i do love their program, but on the other side their routines bore me to death compared to everyone in their division..... then again i dont want everyone to have a mini b**** fit over me calling them out.

You could at least pm me bc I'm nosy. :p

i actually heard an athlete on TGLC say that thats what they felt they were missing. top gun used to be the team you'd show someone who didn't know cheerleading because they were SO entertaining. last year especially, top gun started trying to max out the score sheet and ended up losing some of their preformance factor. this year an athlete said the goal was the bring the "old top gun" back and put on an amazing show instead of focusing on the scoresheet, and look what happened at worlds.. more teams need to start doing this!

I slightly disagree. I think they did a good job of hitting the score sheet as well! They really upped their difficulty in stunting compared to last year! I knew they were golden after seeing all the routines in LC day 2 bc of who hit, difficulty, execution, and performance quality.

I never said they didn't hit the scoresheet well. I said that hitting the scoresheet was second to putting out an impressive performance this year from them. And that's from a top gun athlete on the team!

Ditto on the big hair...I don't mind a nice poof in the front but it has become a competition to see which gym can jack their hair to Jesus the best. Also it looks ridiculous on the smaller kids who end up looking like their hair is bigger than their own heads.
Teams that stacked with 12 year old flyers and then super senior bases. I honestly feel that the age eligibility for Worlds should be 14 and up. I'm sure the younger kids LOVE going but now we have Summit. And I don't feel like these kids get the true team experience when they go. One of cp's friends kept texting her pictures of herself alone around the magic Kingdom and when cp asked where the rest of the team was she said "I don't know, all the big kids left without me..."
To many at large bids, to many small coed/senior teams, it was like a death march to get through them all...I can't imagine what it was like for the people there. How about the at-large winners have to send in a video for prelims (like Junior's last year) and then top 10-15 actually get to come to the Big Show.
People saying a team "deserves" to win because they have "been through so much this year", I'm pretty sure all the teams can say getting to Worlds is an uphill climb....
Bad sportsmanship. I have never seen so many kids unhappy with silver or bronze. There is only 9 gold medal winners, everyone can't get one. The fact that you were one of the top 3 in the world is a huge accomplishment. There were teams celebrating because they made it past prelims...get it in perspective kids.

I am as guilty as sin when I say I used to be one that said 12 year olds should be allowed at worlds. I now take that back. After seeing a lot of the teams with itty bitty fliers (some not tight enough in the air. even though they could hold the position, doesn't mean they were ready for worlds) i now have to agree, 14 should be the bottom age for worlds. My cp is 13 so this isn't even about her. She can do level 5 stunts like the best of them but can't tumble with them ya know? It just looks awk when you look at a team while in stunt ready position and the fliers don't even reach their bases shoulders. Besides, it makes the bases look weak (imo) I know my friend is probably reading this is probably upset. I do apologize if it offends you, it is not meant personally. IF I were a coach, I would train my bases to be stronger and teach them how to base a flier no matter their height. But that would be too much like "right" Just sayin. (Notice I said "if", i probably never will be a coach)

People on the outside looking in saying what other gyms should do, how they should set their teams, etc. It seems to never fail that the ones making those comments are not owners or coaches, or even seasoned parents. Every gym has internal politics and what works at one gym may not necessarily work at another gym due to different dynamics. You say you will do a lot of things until your name, $$$, and *$%)#!{ is on the line with no one to bail you out if it don't work.

They deserved to win - no, that is called entitlement. No one ever deserves to win. You earn it.

Along the same line when your favorite team has a bad performance in March, oh they will get better, just wait and see. When a not so favorite team has a bad performance in November - they suck, they need to drop to Senior 1.2, or better yet just close down.

They had a rough year. Every gym has their own back story to Worlds with injuries, kids quitting, etc. If you are willing to give leeway to one. then give leeway to all.

Let gyms grow and develop. Stop expecting them to all be like Top Gun, ACE, California, CA, etc. It takes time and patience to grow a program to that caliber. If that is even their goal.

I'd love the concept that somehow Level 1-4 athletes don't work as hard or deserve as much as Level 5 athletes to fade away.

I've been biting my tongue in the Summit threads. But really, who can honestly believe that having an event like The Summit will prevent kids from pushing to Worlds level skills? You may have a few that won't, but those kids weren't going to be the type to push for a standing full to start with.

I saw a lot of this and I have to say that I agree with you. I saw so many kids mess up early on and let it dictate how they acted and performed for the rest of the routine (kept dropping, didn't throw their pass, crying during the dance, etc.) I can't tell you how many people I saw crying and kept crying throughout the routine!! I was like, "well maybe you had a shot, but now I don't think you do bc you kept visibly crying, pouting, and messing up the rest of the routine". I understand how very emotional it is, trust me I get that. But how does that saying go.. "never let 'em see you sweat"? I was shocked at how many good teams had these kind of incidents.

Once we got off the floor, our coach pulled us into a private meeting and lost her mind. She said she was incredibly disappointed in us and that we were supposed to be an example to the younger athletes in the gym and we were supposed to show them how to win and lose gracefully, how to pick yourself after a fall and how to display good sportsmanship even after you suffer a disappointment. Once we got back to our home gym, she made us apologize to the younger athletes, who noticed our tears, and explain to them that we were wrong, that yes, its ok to be disappointed but that sportsmanship is the most important thing. Ever since that competition, my old gym has won 2 sportsmanship awards each year. More teams need this lesson and to start taking responsibility for their behaviour. I know this did wonders for our gym.

I think I know who you are talking about and I completely agree with you but my lips are sealed too:D

Ok, i'll bite at this..... my opinion.... Rays. I'm a huge fan of their program, and as a relatively new gym owner, I can only dream that my teams grow into having HALF as much technique as they have program-wide. Just to use Orange as an example- they won and they deserved to. They were clean and skilled, and in terms of technique they are way above the rest. BUT I don't get excited about their routine.... It feels very "traditional" and UCA-ish, while I feel that allstar in general has gone in the opposite direction- performance at the expense of solid technique. We talk about the fiercest dancers and the teams that "give us life"... I don't know that any of the rays teams do that for me, but I love watching them because of the excellent technique that is demonstrated across all levels. They are ultimately successful because technique and execution is-and should be- rewarded more than entertainment value.

This is like if someone could waive their magic wand right?

1. The venue, not a fan of theme parks. Move it to Vegas no humidity, practice, everything can be indoors nice and cool, even all in one Venue. Great security, LOTS of free stuff to do. Great hotels with separate pools for over and under 21. Not Sin City (well it can be if thats what you want)

2. Bad Sportsmanship, It has gotten out of control, you cant only be happy with first place. The look on some peoples faces during awards, so bad. Your personal best should count for something.

Couldn't agree with you more! There are so many people upset about Summit/Worlds at the same venue, but I don't think Disney is the best venue for anything... It's cool and all but logistically it would be great to move one more West.

Bad sportsmanship is the worst and speaks a lot about the gym... get it fixed.
