All-girl high school and college dance teams used to be very common but now, we're seeing more men trying out for dance teams. Thoughts?

There is some speculation when the NBA removed a lot of their all-girl teams, it was a decision based on some chatter from #METOO. TIME did an article when NBA teams began eliminating all-girl dance squads about six years ago. <article> Some women said they were replaced and the reason they gave were season ticket holders wanted something more "family friendly," some women said they were told they wanted more diversification. Critism on exploiting women probably put a lot of pressure on them to make a change.

Some women police officers put together a dance team in their spare time, posted on Twitter, and there was back lash to the point it was in the news. Unfortunately, large scale critism is incredibly disruptive to business, and not all businesses will take the time to defend or address the uninformed and/or keyboard critics.

I've noticed that our high school dance team has been shrinking, and there seems to be less interest in it overall. The middle school dance team only has three members this year, which is a significant decrease. I remember when it was highly competitive to make the team, but now they’re struggling to even get enough girls to keep the team going.

What caused the decline? The #MeToo Movement, perhaps?

Here are some articles I found on the subject:

The Decline of Youth Sports and How Technology is Pulling Kids Away

There are quite a few articles out there on overall youth sport decline in general. The most common reasons I read were:

Post COVID decline
Youth sport decline in the technology age
Social media critics
Toll on mental and physical health as youth sports have gotten more competitive
Cost/economy

But our school cheer teams are still very popular?
