several months late...

red skins can be used and has been used in multiple ways. it can be used and has been used as a neutral way to describe people by their skin color, just like black (skinned) and white (skinned) has been and continues to be used to describe certain people of society. it can be used and has been used in a derogatory way, just like the spanish/portugese word for black, negro (pronounced neh-gro), took on a derogatory fashion (nee-grow) during the late 19th century and early 20th century. it has also been used (i think), long before columbus and his conquistadors arrived, by the indigenous people themselves, more specifically the Choctaw who have been located in the Oklahoma region. in the Choctaw language, okla means people/nation/tribe and homa mean red... red people.
