Actually the definition for ghetto is a lower income community or dangerous community. Ghetto really has nothing to do with how someone behaves. Unfortunately modern ignorance has twisted (no pun intended) the meaning.

You are right about that and I was just thinking about that..unfortunately, people (including myself) do use that word to describe the way a person acts...but many people who act that way are from the ghetto. I was trying to say that a person is not poor just because they come from the ghetto. And being or coming from the ghetto is not a bad thing.

So what you are saying is the conversation on Fierce Board is more civil than everywhere else? That goes against our image though...

Yes Fierce Board is very tame compared to other social networking sites. FB and Twitter are like the Wild Wild West and no one is monitoring what people are doing.

I just don't understand why anybody in the world today would care about race,
ethnicity, or the "ghettoness" of an athlete.

Unfortunately some people, and it seems a lot of adults in particular are just amazingly ignorant and rude especially when it comes to races. My partner is half Haitian half Egyptian, odd combination I know, but we have been together since my 9 year old son was about 6 months. This week I found out that one of the mums who helps at his school had made a comment with in my sons hearing about our relationship and family life that my son took offence to. All the kids nearby were shocked, my son however just told her very clearly that at least he had 2 parents that care for him more than anything in the world, are still together and although he may not be his real dad he is at every school and sporting event and doesn't sit smoking funny smelling cigarettes in the kitchen like her sons daddy did! Although I was shocked by this I am unbelievably proud that at 9 he can tell the difference between right and wrong more than a 37 year old woman, and has the guts to stand up to her.

I just love that you say mum!

Unfortunately on Twitter they have been called ghetto and the "N" word because of the teams diversity it's really sad.
As truly disgusting as this is, I just want to offer a word of encouragement to all of the athletes and parents who have to experience this...know that you can truly hold your heads up high knowing that you are not vile, ignorant, and downright mean, unlike the people who say these things. Know that your character as a person and your performance as an athlete is all that matters and that no matter how hurtful I know it can be, 5, 10, and even 20 years down the road, you'll still the better/bigger person..having retained all the qualities in your character as well as your perseverance, determination, discipline, etc., that being an extraordinary athlete taught you...and they'll still be sad, ignorant individuals.
