My daughter is going into her 4th year of high school varsity cheer. She is a senior this year and was a captain as a junior last year. This year the coach is making her a co-captain instead if captain. She is the only cheerleader that has been on varsity for 4 years. One of the current captains quit last year and some of the other Co-captains are girls who quit last year. My daughter actually gave up her all star team last year to show the coach she was committed. Something previous coaches would not have encouraged her to do. We are feeling like this might be retaliation against me for complaints I made about the varsity coach last year. My daughter is uncomfortable having a discussion with the coach because the coach is unapproachable and my daughter feels it would create further problems for her. If my daughter is in agreement would it be considered acceptable for a parent to ask the coach for an understanding of the change in role for my daughter? Or is it best to leave it alone? I just feel awful for her since it's her senior year and she is a great cheerleader and loved by the entire squad.
