For senior restricted 5 are Arabian legal to tumble out of or are steps necessary?

I hate this new rule!! No Arabians, no standing fulls, and no full, full. Booo!!! Is this just because its too close to Senior 5?

You must have the steps like in level 3. Or you can Arabian to a stop or forward roll with no tumbling. Otherwise it is illegal an can be penalized. I have seen the arabian thru competed once this year in restricted 5. icecheermom - if a squad has those skills you list they can be competitive tumbling wise in Regular 5. Restricted 5 allows gyms to develop a level 5 team program slowly without rushing them to compete skills they are not ready to compete. They can train those skills you mention and then when ready compete in regular 5.

I so wish we could but we have about 3 girls that are too young. These girls have been able to cheer level 5 since they were like 8, so they have been on Senior Open for 3 years now. We're from a small town so there is not much talent to pull from. Keep an eye out for us next year though because its ON!!!! lol

I know why they did it, but at this point in the season, I think it's holding back, I think limiting to single twist as it was before was fine. I still want to say that I think ALL levels should have a bottom age AND there should be a Restricted JUNIOR division!

I believe me I understand how you feel. One of the things I like about the division is that it allows gyms that may be small, or newer to the Level 5 division to still provide their athletes with the ability to compete their skills and not always automatically be a feeder program for the larger program that can provide several different competitive options. If you are constantly losing your top level athletes you will not be able to field a team in the division which keeps your program ultimately from growing. You can at least try to build a team which IMO is better than risking your kids to unnecessary injuries to keep up with programs that have been doing this for years and have great depths of talent to pull from. Or to (sarcasm here) try to impress people who don't really care about your program in the first place.

yojaehs - I agree with you on the Junior Division. Youth Restricted and Senior Restricted but no Junior? Either implement it all the way or get rid of restricted completely. Maybe people can learn to be kind and not dog out teams/programs who are just starting out in the divisions. Encourage them instead of telling them how bad they are and they ought to be level 4 or 3 (sarcasm again) Allow them to go to smaller comps and stop putting them on blast because they don't compete at NCA, Indy, CheerSport ATL, etc. I know the latter is a pipe dream, so I guess we just need to stick with the restricted divisions for now.;)

If someone spots the arabian its legal...i think. C4 had a girl on senior 3 do a punch front to tuck and the pf was spotted.

i must have seen 5+ restricted teams do arabians with a r/o bhs full connected, I kept saying I dont know why these teams are throwing these they are illegal. They are considered a twisting skill and in restricted you must end your pass with the twisting skill. However if you only throw the arabian then you are fine and its also counted as a level five skill. I as well would love to see the option for the jr division to be restricted!!

I thought the whole reason youth 5 restricted was formed was because they were eventually going to phase out youth 5.

If the judges don't call it, or choose to give a warning instead, people are going to throw it until it is called.

you can full handspring full can't you? i thought it was a twisting element must be preceded by a round off or handspring (eliminating bounding and standing fulls).

RESTRICTED DIVISIONS (Youth and Sr Restricted 5)
The following skill restrictions apply for all (and only) Restricted divisions:
STANDING/RUNNING TUMBLING
1. Tumbling skills are allowed up to 1 flipping and 1 twisting rotation.
In tumbling, twisting skills may ONLY be performed if immediately preceded by a back
handspring(s) or round off. During a full-twisting tumbling skill, no trick other than the twist
is allowed (including but not limited to: split fulls, hitch kick fulls, X-Fulls, Full-Xouts) and
both feet must land and finish on the performing surface (i.e. no full twisting tumbling to
seat, prone body landings or similar).
Clarification: All skills up to a full twist are also allowed. (example: half twists and Arabians)
Additional tumbling skills may be performed prior to the round-off and/or back handspring.

2. No tumbling is allowed after the twisting skill. (Exception: A forward or backward roll is
allowed after a twisting skill; however, no tumbling is allowed after the roll.)
Clarification: If any tumbling follows a forward or backward roll or forward or backward
twisting skill, at least one step into the next tumbling skill must be included to separate the
two passes. Stepping out of a twisting skill (i.e. Arabian) or forward roll is considered a
continuation of the same tumbling pass. An athlete must take an additional step out of a
twisting skill step out or a forward roll step out. However, if the athlete finishes the twisting
skill or stands the forward roll with both feet together, then one step is all that is needed to
create a new tumbling pass.

Thats the truth. I know a team this season that competed standing fulls and arabian through to fulls 3 times this season knowing there were illigal. Going into the 1st competition the coaches were unawear, after the competition they were told by someone that the skills were illegal but didnt believe it because "teams did them last year" and "the judges didnt say anything". After the 2nd competition someoene sent them a link to the new rules and again it was said that the judges didnt say anything, and finally after the 3rd compettiton they got deducted and the skills have now been removed.
