Hi guys! Last time I posted a thread about privates I loved all the info I got. I was wondering now what clinics are like at your gym, or ones you've gone to. I plan on going to a stunting one (as a flyer), and a two day tumbling one with John C. Just wondering what I should expect for both seeing as I've never done a clinic.

I did a couple of twisting clinics geared for (almost) fulls and doubles. We did a lot of really awesome drills that made me really aware of where my body was at during the spin. Having that body awareness really improved my confidence in my tumbling. In the first clinic I went to, I don't think we tumbled on the floor at all, it was mostly drill focused and utilized the tumble track. The second one I remember tumbling on the floor the entire time, and there were a couple of stations set up as well as corner tumbling. I suppose it really depends on who is running the clinic.

I love John! He has a really unique style of coaching. He has amazing skills himself and uses this to motivate you and explain things in a humoristic way.

I've been to tumbling clinics. I don't go to the stunting ones normally, cos I find they're more for flyers. I've done everything from level 2 to level 4. Some have been all drills and no spotting for skills, and others have been 5-10 stations with 2-3 being for spotting. It all depends on who is running the clinic and their philosophy.

Personally, I prefer the spotting. I normally go in with specific skills I've been working on for a while already. I've done the drills and I'm close to getting the skill, so I want a fresh pair of eyes on it to give me tips/corrections to get the skill. I've only been to 1-2 clinics where I didn't get a new skill. I'm not too big on trying new things cos 1. I know I'm only going to get introduced to it and won't have enough time there to get some serious work done, and 2. I prefer to try new things into the pit so I don't have to worry about crashing and burning. I can just focus on trying to get the feel for the skill.

Please remember that I'm old and I'm working on very specific skills that I know I have the potential to get. I fully believe younger kids should get introduced to new skills and work their way up the progressions/levels.

This isn't really related to the OP, but I wasn't sure if there was somewhere else I should be posting this. Is anyone planning on attending the stunting clinics held by PCM Phoenix at their Irvine location? I'm going to try to get to all the ones they offer, and would love to meet some fellow fierceboarders if anyone else is going!
