I think it should of been dealt with when it began, but the athletes are adults themselves, not minors. They should of not allowed to be pushed around
and treated like that whether or not it is their coach. No one should be disrespected by another person. He deserves to be fired.

oh he was

Wow. Completely unacceptable. Now that this is out, will the NCAA step in?

My thoughts...outrageous! I am over teachers/coaches thinking they can do what ever they want to their students because they are in a position of authority. Believe me I understand aggressive coaching and sometimes as a last resort it is needed but this crosses WAY over the line. Just because these athletes are not minors gives him NO right to inflict physical violence, name calling and creating a environment of intimidation to any of them! Many of these kids are on scholarship. If anything it is worse for them as this is their way to get a free education they may not have received otherwise or a short a pro! Of course they are going to be very hesitant to speak up for themselves. They have alot at stake. How in the world can a institution of learning think they can speak to these students about hazing and bullying on or off campus when you have this going on. Young people learn by example and by showing them actions have consequences! This is the perfect example of Authoritative Bullying and the University allowed it...outrageous!!

The biggest thing that gets me is how this behavior is acceptable in sports if you are winning... People turn a blind eye if the team is state champs, or national champions, or whatever big title. It's like they have the "well if that's what it takes to win..." mentality, which is just mind blowing to me. No, it's not ok, and it'll never be ok.

The thing that I found even more unsettling was that none of the assistant coaches spoke up and stopped it. Have we learned nothing since the Sandusky scandal?

Do people not see that when those athletes leave the court they are more likely to be aggressive in any life situation?! Thinking that they to can intimidate those that are "beneath them". This just feeds into that mentality you are speaking about.

Agreed! I definitely disagree with these whole coaching by intimidation tactics. For many reasons. First, it makes the athlete believe that that is an acceptable way to treat anyone, so it isn't exactly teaching a kid to be the greatest person on and off the field, court, mat, etcetera. Also, it just is stressful for the athlete and it deprives them of a normal and happy life, not only a good career. If that man thinks it'll improve his team in the long run, it won't.

The thing is, everyone (at least here anyway) knew about this at the end of last year. He was suspended and fined by RU in December for this. I'm shocked it took this long for the video to become public. The AD will be the next to go.

The only reason he was fired was because the video became public.

The saddest part of the story, to me, is that this was seen by Rutgers president last fall. At the time, the coach got a tiny little suspension and fine. It wasn't until the tape hit the media that the rightful punishment was served. Just goes to show - ONCE AGAIN - that so long as there is winning and revenue, it's okay for this behavior to continue.

I am in awe when I see little mini teams being hollered at by their coaches after "poor" performances and their parents are standing by letting it happen. So long as they get their little National Champion jackets to post on Facebook, the parents are willing to turn a blind eye.

Smh

Actually the Assistant Coach was the one who did the video taping, and went to the AD with the video and the administration fired him some time ago. He has been all over the media speaking about what went on in practices.
