College College Cheer Tryouts: What Do You Wear?

Some colleges care. Some don't care. Some only don't care til you go out on gameday with Hot Pink on your finger tips.

Red lips or pink lips are basically a must for college cheering, regardless the school.

The lip color I expect. I'm a huge fan of dark lip colors.

Are recommended nail colors a thing (I would think not), or is Kentucky just being different?

I'm so used to hearing "no nail polish".

We were allowed to have clear or french nails. One girl had black on her nails and the coach didn't say anything until we got to Daytona and she was literally trying to pick it off in warmups

I second the above statement that you should do hair and makeup in a game-day style.

There's a big difference between how you would dress/style yourself for a tryout, and how you would in practice.

...Meaning, during practice I used to turn up looking like I just hiked through the desert, but on tryout day I was groomed to perfection.

The ones my daugher ordered were 3” grosgrain; they came in a 10 pack for maybe $12.99 and were not stiff at all. She specifically didn’t want stiff bows for college tryouts.

Do a google search of the college you are interested in - some schools use a 1" ribbon tied in a bow and they aren't stiff, and some use bows the same bows that are used in all star, since there is a wide range of what different schools use it's hard to answer your question!

UCA schools typically wear a loose 1" ribbon, which you can find at any craft or fabric store. NCA schools may go bigger and bolder with a structured bow, depending on the school.

I think a lot of the big programs do it. I understand why - there's nothing like an ESPN close up of a girl with bright blue nails, but on the other hand, you have poms in your hands 100% of the time so...?

Game day ready. The goal is that when the coaches look at you they can see you on the team and can imagine you fitting in already. Generally speaking that means natural makeup with a neutral blush, red lip, and subtle neutral eye with smudged out liner.

Stalk them on insta and copy the girls hair/makeup from games.
