The Thunder Ridge High School cheerleading squad is looking outside of their own community and helping those who have been hurt by Colorado’s recent school shooting. The idea was the brainchild of Thunder Ridge teacher and cheerleading coach Mandy Martinez, who is friends with one of Arapahoe High School’s cheerleading coaches. Her idea was for the squad to sell t-shirts to support 17-year-old Claire Davis, who was the only victim of last week’s Arapahoe High School shooting. Claire remains in a coma after suffering severe head trauma as a result of the gunshot wound she experienced.

The Thunder Ridge cheerleaders are selling custom-made t-shirts to raise money for Claire’s hospital bills. The t-shirts are a tribute to the strength of the Arapahoe community as they get past this troubled time. As of the 17th of December, the cheerleaders have sold more than 600 of the “Colorado Strong” shirts. Buyers include several Denver-area law enforcement agencies, who tweeted their enthusiasm about the project to the squad.

“WRPD will proudly wear our shirts in support of #COStrong4Claire,” the Wheat Ridge Police Department tweeted.

“We’re ready to be stylish for #COstrong4Claire,” the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said.

”Thinking about her girls that she coaches and the emotions she must have been going through. I can’t imagine anything happening to one of my kids,” Martinez said. The squad came together with Martinez’s idea and designed the shirt and set a goal of raising $15,000 to help pay for a large chunk of Claire’s hospital bills.
