Ballet mom here. Buns require a LOT of hair pins if they're going to stay in. Do you want hairpins flying out all over the mat?

That's pretty much what they did for competition last weekend. But their uniforms are SO MUCH prettier than these pictures capture! They wore the capris and under the lights, they just sparkled! I noticed the hair walking around, but not on the mat. On the mat...it was all sparkle :-) So I guess if you have a knock-out uniform on the mat - you can do whatever you want with your hair :-)

We did side buns years ago. Cp's hair at that point was very thin and fine. It looked like she had a nub on her head but it wasn't hard for me to do.

There are a few high schools around here who compete with buns. Not my fav look but I'm pretty indifferent about it.

We saw several teams that did a bun at our comp here in FL this weekend.
