How common is it for kids to compete on more than one team within a gym? Does it happen a lot that someone could make a higher level younger team and a lower level older team (eg. junior 4 and senior 2) at the same time? This is for no personal reasons I'm just curious.

I think it depends on the child. Using your example, Jr 4 and Sr 2.......Perhaps this child was a flyer but not able to fly on the Jr 4 team because of the size of other children, they might have put him/her on that team to fly.

In terms of time and money though, obviously it is much more realistic at a less expensive gym, and less realistic at a gym where each team trains 3 times a week. Is it a realistic option for a lot of kids or not?

It again really depends on the child. I really don't think that coaches would ask a child if they didn't think they could handle the extra time spent in the gym. My daughter double teamed last year, her gym has 3 day a week practices and she is 7. She is double teaming again this year. At her gym they don't charge additional gym fees just cross over fees associated with the comps.

I think it depends alot on the gym also. A big name gym is less likely to use them because they have a larger pool to choose from. A smaller gym needs them to create a full team sometimes.
