Finding A Gym?

I posted a thread about want to be a cheerleader a while back and I am starting to get serious about it.. But I have done research and I can't find a gym thats near me. I live in Kansas and the nearest gym I have found is in Topeka which is 45 minutes away! I asked my dad but my family is busy so I don't think we'd be able to make those hour long trips for every practice... I don't know what to do because I really want to cheer, but there are no gyms near me. My sister does High School Rodeo so that always keeps us busy and I just don't think there would be enough time for the practices... I don't know what to do! Please help!

Are you near Manhattan? Allegiant Cheer Elite is a new program and I can connect you with the owner (I know she's on here but I can't remember her user name).

I live 30 minutes away from Manhattan, I have asked my parents about a gymnastics facility there that had a team, but they didn't offer any information on it... I did not know that Allegiant Cheer Elite was there before and now I am interested! My dad gets home from his trip tonight (he's a pilot) so I will definitely ask about it :) Now, I have no experience in cheer before and can't do a handstand or even a cart wheel... Do you think they would have a spot for me?

Yes, they have level 1 teams which is right where you need to be!

just to let you know, most teams have choreography done by now. you might not be able to join a team at this point in the year. if that is the case, i would suggest taking tumbling/stunt classes.

Also, have you looked at youtube? There are so many tutorials on there about everything to do with cheer / gymnastics! You should be able to find a few good videos teaching you how to do handstand & cartwheel etc, so you can get started practicing at home too.

I like the coach Meggin ones for basic skills (she's an adult gymnastics coach), but there are also lots of good ones by cheer & gymnastics kids.

UGH!! I really wish I would have known of this sooner! I did a ton of online searching before we moved to Ft. Riley and the closest all star gym I found was Lawrence! We've been there 2 months now. Yes... I drive back and forth to Lawrence 3 days a week from JC. Someone shoot me. My girl sleeps, eats and breathes cheer though, so I really had no choice. Would be nice not to have to drive so far though! What level teams do you have?

Are you going to G-Force? They did have a location in Topeka last year.

Our Minis are Level 1 and Juniors will be Level 2. They will be competing in the Prep Division this year, although for next season we would like to do a full year team.

Yes, G-Force :). My daughter Eden is on the Junior 3 traveling team. If I understand it correctly, the team at Topeka last year was/is a local team. They do offer tumbling classes in Topeka, but she likes to go to the tumbling class that her teammates all go to.

I think there were only 4 teams last year. Falcons, Tomahawks, Jayhawks and maybe one more. Good luck with the drive once winter rolls around. We were turned around by police one weekend due to really bad accidents by Maple Hill exit.

Fun gym, it just wasn't worth risking our lives over.
