Hey guys, I was just watching some 2x2 videos and I was watching a couple of the flyers and I saw like atleast 3-4 flyers that have like straight legged scorpions and I was just wondering why they never put them in the routine? In their routine last year and now this year they are just like regular scorpions and not the straight legged ones. Do you get more or less points or does it not effect the scores? I remember when I was an all star cheerleader they used to knock us down for poor flexibility ?

My guess is it has a lot to do with symmetry. Also on a large team it doesn't always look right to have like 3 or 4 groups doing straight scorps while the rest are doing non-straight ones. IMO it looks a little awkward.

My guess would be that it would not look uniform to have 3 flyers do straight legs and the rest have bent legs. They probably want all of the stunts to look the same.

Oh, ok that would make sense ! It would be sweet if all 8 or 9 at straight legs ! I would love that !

I actually hate straight leg scorpions. I know I'm a little weird but I just think they are awkward looking. I prefer normal scorps.
After reading all the recent tales of cheerleaders with aching backs and joints, I'm totally with you on this. Flexibility is great, pushing it to the point where it looks painful is, umm, painful to look at.

I'm sure there are many naturally flexible girls and that's awesome, but there are just as many not so naturally flexible girls working hard to get there through the pain and it just doesn't seem worth it.

We actually have a lot of girls with straight-leg scorpions, but they say it takes a little bit longer to pull them straight. A lot of times the stunt sequence is too quick or has too many other body positions to pull it straight.

Personally, I consider them different body positions completely, or at least I think they should be. To me, a scorpion has a bent knee; a spike doesn't. I don't think one scores better than the other, unless you have full squad spikes, as it may just improve the overall impression of the stunt. I could be wrong on that though.

I feel like "impression of the stunt/routine" can really vary from judge to judge.

I was about to say this. On my team we have 2 straight legs and the rest are getting there, but the counts aren't long enough to spend all that time pulling them straight! There are some girls out there that have master the art of whipping a straight leg up there but that is not common!

ITS "SCORPION" NOT "SCORPIAN". If you type a word and there's a red line under it, it's probably spelled wrong. Did you know?

Anyway, I prefer an Allie Snow-esque scorpion over a spike.
