With all the talk about getting or not getting released I am curious to see who has tried and who has been successful. No names and programs needed but knowing the situation behind it would help!

Thanks!

^Is that the only one? Or the only one we all know about? I can imagine there must be one or two more..
I'm sure there are... but those people probably didn't have campaigns all over facebook, twitter, and fierce to set them free. haha

if you have competed with a team and want to move....unless your old team releases you....no go....period!

^^^^ true, I would just love to hear about those ones that did not have to campaign to get it signed =)

its kind of crazy....there was no need of written proof...parental signatures...nothing..if you competed....you were stuck....but oh well...it's the rules so ya gotta deal with it....:)

I would like to know..people NOT in favor of this rule make it seem as though tons of people are affected. The ones on the other side insist the potential pain of the few is worth it for the good of the many. I wish we could know numbers..

There's an athlete in our gym who was released from her gym to compete with our gym and she was released without any incident and there is a major history between our gym and their gym. It just goes to show that even though there is a history of bad blood or animosity between gyms, they are willing to set that aside and are willing to release the athlete if they feel that it would be in the athlete's best interest. She was on their level 5 world's team to be placed on our level 5 world's team-and, incidentally, both teams have already earned their bids to Worlds!!

I believe that there were 2 or 3 situations that drew attention last year. I want to say that 2 of them were athletes wanting to go to ICE (the indiana location) but I don't remember if they ended up getting their release. The other one of course got more attention and was really discussed to death.

It is astounding to me that this is an issue at all....I am a hairstylist....people aren't property....why would you want ANYONE at your program against their will.....I would ALWAYS say good riddance if someone wanted to try another stylist...we can't please everyone...:)

As long as nothing was owed and if so, a payment arrangement was worked out, I see no problem letting someone go.

I know the athletes from ICE last season did not get released, the jury is still out on the Famous saga.

I think there can be a fine line sometimes. I mean if a star quarterback at UCLA suddenly realizes in November that UCLA doesn't have that great a team and USC does so he wants to go to USC... Fine he can quit and go to USC, but that doesn't mean UCLA has to roll out the red carpet and sign a note that says he can immediately join the Trojans and turn around and play football against them that fall(And yes, I do know that the NCAA actually has policies and rules in place to prevent this type of situation... I was just using it as an example of why Gym A might not want to release an athlete they have trained to competitor Gym B at a certain point of the season)

There are always two sides to every story and I think before anyone can comment or form a judgement on any specific situation they should be careful that they have equally and fairly heard both sides of the story.

As far as the original question... Yes, we had an athlete on our team last year who was released by current team to compete with our team part way through the season.

in addition to the athletes in indiana, there was the new jersey gyms situation. this athlete was not granted a release which left not one but two teams scrambling to find eligible athletes to replaces the others.

I agree with kristenthegreat I'd like to see official numbers of athletes who needed a release last season. We can all name 2-3 situations from last season because athletes were not released, so there was quite a bit of commotion. However, we have no idea how many gyms amicably granted releases to athletes without conflict or public knowledge. I know there is not record or way to find numbers, but i'd be curious to find out.
