Hello guys! My daughter wants to transition from competitive gymnastics to cheer. She was an Xcel Gold gymnast and she has level 2 tumbling skills. However she’s never done stunting before or cheer jumps. So we don’t know if we should put her in novice cheer, prep level 2, or jump straight into elite. Let me know what you guys think.

Gyms will have tryouts soon, and they will determine the best fit for her. Does she have gymnastics level 2 or cheer level 2 tumble skills? They are different.

The typical requirements at many gyms for levels 1-4 are:

Not all cheer gyms have the same requirements, some requiring more, others less.

Hi! My daughter switched from gymnastics to cheer last year. She was a level 4 gymnast which corresponded to level 2/3 cheer. While the skills are different, she picked up flying very easily....she's naturally flexible and the conditioning in gymnastics helped with her tight body positions and balance. Based on our experience, I would say gymnastics skills and training are transferable to cheer. Your daughter will likely be elite and the gym will determine the level. Levels work differently in a team sport and not every athlete on the team has to have all of the skills for that level. Gyms piece the teams together based on the skills they have kind of like a puzzle.
