Taking a poll-comment with your choice:
I'm thinking of starting a small business, but I need to decided what my focus should be. Should it be:
a) homemade all natural doggie treats
b) homemade unique stamped animal tags
c) speciality occasion baskets
d) handmade paper/journals
e) handmade all natural bath products
f) decorative home items
g) all of the above
h) none of the above and shut the f up with all this poll taking

(I didn't make it an official poll because I'm open to combining ideas)
Help me out my lovies!!!:p:cheering::chestbump:

I like your occasion baskets idea. My mums friend makes 'sweet trees' (I'm struggling to describe them but there are pictures on google). I don't know if people make/sell them in America but they are nice presents. Not sure if that's the kind of thing you are looking to do? Just a suggestion :)

Pet treats. We live in a very large subdivision with a neighborhood blog, pet treats would be something you could hand samples out to neighbors as they are walking pets, even better if you can put the word out on community blogs. Go to vets in the area and ask if you can sell them at their office, offer a portion back to the vet to help with animals that get dropped off at their door step. You can always tie a tag on your homemade snacks on how to order your unique animal tags.

I have an old boss that went into the pet accessory and treat business and did quite well. He started off doing treats, selling them locally and eventually leased a store next to a very popular area veterinarian that also boarded animals.

I agree! People are willing to spend a lot of money on their pets. You could hand them out at dog parks too!

Do you like animals? Do you have the kitchen space to do pet treats? Is there another similar business within 10 or so miles from you?

Are you creative/ artsy craft person? Craft stores nearby that may already offer what you want to do? Work space/storage area in your home?

Different businesses, write down pros/cons of each business, don't jump into without thinking of everything involved!

All fantastic questions!
-I have a moderate amount of kitchen space, but I can make more (using folding tables, etc) should the need arise
-As far as I know, there is not an "established business" anywhere close by doing the same thing
-I'm as creative and crafty as they come(my avatar is the back of a shirt I made for when my daughter went to worlds)-my husband will only allow me in Michael's, AC Moore's, Joann Fabrics, yard sales, thrift shops, etc. if I am escorted by him.
-Great minds think alike! I have already begun my list of pro's and con's!

@retiredl5cheer -I'm probably going to skip Etsy in the beginning, only because I want to cut out the middle man and the sales percentage they take. Once I grow to a big enough business, I will probably create an eclectic Etsy store. :)

Thank you all for such wonderful input!!! PLEASE keep it coming!!!
