But if she stays she may never learn the higher level stunting because the team may not move up a level.

But it doesn't necessarily mean she's ready for it right now. If she's only been on level 2 or 3, going to level 5 is a huge jump especially if she is going to be on a really competitive team.

Susie should stay at the gym if she really loves the people there. If choreography started, it's really not fair if Suzie just quit. Also, it sounds like Suzie's young so she still has at least 5 years left to be on a higher level. She should still work on her higher level skills and perfect them, then, when the seasons over, if shes still not old enough to be on the level 5 team, she should go to the other gym.

So Susie just got her running double and standing full but the current gym she is at doesn't offer youth 5 or Jr 5 and she to young for senior 5 . Luckily Susie happens to be 30 minutes away from a gym that offers youth 5 and Jr 5 should Susie stay at her current gym where she will be forced to stay on a lower level or should she go to the other gym that offers youth 5.
What division/level is she on now and do you think the parents/child would consider the move? First - most Youth 5 teams are restricted which eliminates the running double unless you are close to CEA. However, I don't believe in holding a child back that possess the skills, especially if they aren't going to be able to retain them with private lessons etc., during the season. If the parents are open to it, have them contact the Youth 5 team in the area for a private evaluation and they can decide from there - no harm done especially so early in the season and choreography not completed yet.

My daughter was currently at a gym for a few years where there was not much growth potential, and only certain athletes were trained to move up levels. When a gym provides great training, they usually are able to create teams of all levels. Through my personal experience I removed my child and placed her at a gym where she could not get stuck at any level no matter her age or skill. I researched this gym and took her to some training prior. It’s a much bigger gym but I see why they are much bigger. They have a much more successful and fair training program. This was the best thing I could have done for her. The gym is about 45 min away from my home appose to the gym that was only 10 min away. The ride is well worth it. If your daughter has true level 5 skills than why hold her back. We are not paying for a sport where our kids have to be held back because a gym does not have a team for them. The goal is to make it to level five and maybe six for the gyms that have level six. Evaluate your situation very carefully. I say take her to where she can still grow and utilize her skills. Remember, sometimes we loose what we don’t use. Sounds like your Susie and my Susie could have something in common. Good luck with your decision.

If she took tumbling privates and worked so hard to get her level 5 skills, then she should go to a gym with a level 5 team. I don't understand how you all think that level 5 stunting is learned. I would say that 95% of athletes that first join level 5 teams do not have experience with level 5 stunting (the other 5% being athletes that took level 5 stunting classes). Tumbling is the hardest aspect of cheerleading to learn in terms of increasing the level, so it is generally the most effective way to place athletes.

I just wouldn't want to see all of the money in private lessons being put to waste if she cannot showcase the skills that she learned from them.

There is a lot that goes into this decision. Has the other gym had choreo yet? Do they still even have spots open on youth or j5? Has she viewed the other gym practicing to see if she would fit in their gym atmosphere? Since the season has technically started, Personally I'd stay for this year....especially if she was able to age up to the senior 5 in one more season, since 1. she JUST got the skills and 2. she chose to try out at this gym for another season regardless of the team she would be put on. She can perfect her skills on level 3, be with her friends, and still take privates or tumbling lessons every week to keep working on that standing full and running double to get better consistancy. Now next season if she is still not eligible for a level 5 team at the gym, I'd tryout at the other gym. This way she isn't going back on her commitment to her current gym and team this year, but she can still improve (jumps and stunting especially). She sounds young and has plenty of time to jump into the stress and competitiveness of level 5. Plus it can save her joints a bit by not throwing those doubles over and over in a routine for 5 plus years. JMO..... Ultimately it is her decision though to make and she has to decide what would be best for her.

Did you say the individual is on a level 3 team or is that you? I'm pretty sure her parents will make the right decision, just keep encouraging her.

susies still so young its not like shes ring chasing?
move you might like it and of not come back.
why would anyone hold it against her.
shes setting her personal standards high enough to meet the level 5 needs and for nothing.
i say move!
