I recently finished my first year of allstar this season and even though we were not successful I had alot of fun! if I do go back to allstar it will not be at the gym I was at because the "coach" was just using us for money.. she charged us 3 times more than we should have and did not give us the most for our money, example being she charged us $100 for makeup and shoes when we never recieved our makeup and our shoes were $50 (I checked online) but I still love the sport.. but all my friends are doing hs cheer and my school has a really good team and program and I want to do both allstar and highschool what should I do :(

In your other post you are complaining the girls are calling you names because you were accused of tattling even though you weren't ..so which one do you feel more of a family? Part of something great where you can make lasting friendships and grow as a cheerleader? That is where I would go.

HS and AS cheer are very very very different. I coach HS cheer, I have coached AS cheer. I feel to each their own BUT I think HS cheer is great if you want to be involved in the social aspect of cheer and if they are competitive, then you will get that part too which is great.

I think you should try HS this year and see how it goes :) You can always switch back!

In my experience, High School Cheer is more of a popularity contest, and it's actually harder to stay on a team. Not for everyone, but just where I'm at. You have to be in the "inner circle" to get anywhere, whereas at allstar, I found everyone to be more accepting. Just my experience.

It's my understanding that some schools still allow the student body to vote on the cheer squad, which is absolutely nuts, in my opinion. Although it was like that when I was in high school 100 years ago ;). At my CP's school, they bring in outside judges for tryouts, which means that they are judge on their skills and not their popularity.

My CP did both last year. Between both teams and school homework, she had a very difficult time. Her HS coach wasn't very understanding and HS cheer cost me almost as much as AS. She is debating whether she wants to do both this year.

It depends on your schools cheer program. My school is a very competition focused school and to be on the varsity competition team you need to have certain skills. I think if your school focuses more on the competition aspect of Cheer then you should be fine:)

I loved high school cheer. We were competitive and competed at nationals every year. I probably would have loved all star but my parents wouldn't let me do it. For the most part my high school cheer experience was positive and set me up good for cheering in college (not saying that all star doesn't).

As I personally did both HS And AS. I definitely gained more from AS but it totally depends on what you're looking for. If you didn't enjoy AS last year try HS. If your school is competitive and not just in it for the popularity then go for it. I do think HS is a great experience so why not try it out! :)

I did both and highschool can work around your schedule better because you get a few days off to study for finals or if we have a half day, no practice. For the most part the girls on the team will have the same school schedule as you, like if they have finals chances are so will you, so you're coach is more understanding. But allstars Is where I learned everything I know. I wouldn't know anything about cheerleading if I didn't do allstars and learn correct technique. A majority of my team has done allstars atleast once so our technique was really good. They are two different programs but I loved both of them!!

I coach HS and do you know how much bad technique I am cleaning up from sub-par all-star teams?? Just saying not all all-star programs teach properly or well at that. I actually had a "thank you" from a local all-star coach b/c the stunt group go so much better...

My schools cheerleading program is not like any of the other schools in my state. We are not allowed to compete or do certain stunts (mainly tosses) and our coaches only experience with cheerleading is that their daughters do it. Not all technique I've learned is great but for the most part it's a lot better than anything I've learned technique wise in my highschool cheer program. Me and the other competitive cheer girls have to teach the rest of the girls how to do stunts and the coach kind of just supervises and make sure everyone is safe, but I understand where you're coming from

My cp did All Star and football season HS cheer last year and it was very difficult managing both. Her hs practices ended at 5:30 or 6:00 and she had All Star practice 2 days a week which started at 6 and it takes at least 45 minutes to get to her AS gym so she had to leave early on those days. He coaches weren't too happy or understanding, but she told them beforehand. This year she is only doing HS cheer because she wants to be on varsity and to do that you have to do both football and competition cheer and there is no way she could do both because some competitions fall on the same days or weekends where she'd be at All Star Nationals.. Also, she is stuck at level 4 in All Star and wants to up her tumbling and the only way she can do that is to tumble close to home because at her All Star gym you cannot tumble anywhere else and the travel time is just too much to tumble on practice nights or go there for an extra tumbling class on non-practice days.
