All-Star How Does Your Gym Decide?

i was wondering that too! like worlds cup has odyssey, suns, and stars... if stars is the "top team", then why are there people who are on suns that are better than some of the stars? (assuming not everyone on stars has a trick to a double and some suns do) ??

Because putting a team together isn't about having tryouts and choosing the top 36 for one team and the next 36 for the other. It's about finding the right mix of people to fill roles needed on a team.

Because the guys are charged less and the girls pay the difference. It's been that way as long as we've been at ACE. And as much as people want to criticize about "fairness" blah, blah, it's how Happy has been able to consistently recruit guys and support coed teams year after year.

This is what Top Gun does too, isn't it?

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere on here that Rays charge their guys exactly the same as the girls, so I don't know how they place people.

Some gyms actually ask what teams you are interested in trying out for when you fill out your tryout score sheet...some girls prefer co-ed stunting to all-girl...some would rather be a big fish in a small pond on small senior instead of one of many on large senior...this may not be the case for all gyms, but usually it falls on preference and then coaches may switch girls around as needed according to their basing/flying skills.

Top Gun charges all boys the same amount regardless of what team they are on (with the exception of the International Open Teams).

The boys do pay less than the girls and it's all disclosed on their tryout paperwork. The extra charged for girls is bows, makeup, etc.

At Top Gun your monthly fee includes everything except fees for local competitions and travel expenses. Here is the link to the package for next year;

In regards to other teams that may charge more for their "top" teams, it's probably because there is more instruction and competitions they go to. Plus it may be for those extra expenses you may incur with a Worlds trip irregardless of getting a paid bid or not.

To answer the original question on how gyms decide, after Tryouts, Top Gun will "overload" the teams. Meaning if a large team has 36, the amount on the team after tryouts may be 40 athletes. They do monthly evaluations and after the end of summer you are placed on a team based upon what the needs of that team is.

They do continue to reevaluate during the season based on skill, attitude, financials, etc. and reserve the right to move athletes to other teams as they see needed. Again, everything is disclosed in the packet and you sign a form acknowledging as such and have to have your signatures (parent AND athlete) notarized.

I noticed this when looking through the packet and at first thought "Geez, that's a little dramatic", but really.. they are entering into a contract. I think this makes it more than just "the piece of paper I have to sign, blah blah blah" and maybe represents it's a little more serious.

Exactly. And people still claim they "didn't know". I have always said, when it comes to team placement, routines, etc., there is a method to his (Victor's) madness AND the trophies on the wall pretty much support it. The guy wins, plain and simple and as a parent who drove 52 miles each way to take my daughter to practice, that's why we went there. She always knew it was a priviledge to cheer at Top Gun, not a right as we had plenty of other programs within a few miles of our home.

Yes! It's just smart business to have it notorized. If they "didn't know" it's not TG's problem, it's theirs. If an athlete does get moved to a different team mid-year, how are uniforms worked out?

Other than the International Teams, everyone else wears the same uniform. My daughter rented her uniform her last year so that's an option too.

but what is the reasoning behind the extra cost? Do you go to more competitions? Does the coed team practice more?

its probably harder to get guys to join so if they dont have to pay as much there more likely to join
... and some gyms really need guys so if one gyms price is lower then the others maybe the guys will choose the lower priced gym
