So were approaching that time of year where bodies are beat, bones ache, and both athletes and coaches have let out every tear they can muster up, until the last competition. And as many of you may know after all the pain you are in overdrive, your body just goes, no more thinking, no more struggling with that pass, falling all the sudden doesn't hurt and the end is near. Everyone is on the verge of burnout, but what choice is that after all you've been through.

In light of the struggles we have been through, and a little pick me up as the season comes to a end, I'm curious to know from gyms, coaches, athletes, music producers, choreographers etc... what got you started? I've seen mom's start making bows for their daughter and a business booms, athletes who were once just little kids turn into poised top notch all star cheerlebrities, and gyms that started with prep/rec cheer in the park to high class gyms. Whether it was a loan from mom to get started, friends saying, "hey come to open gym with me", or a divine revelation...

Tell me, what's your story? How'd you get started, and what keeps you going?

I switched schools and they didnt have a soccer team, but my freind found out they had a cheer team and dared me to join so we could laugh at them. I am not gunna lie, before that year i joined i was one of those people who laugh at cheerleaders. I amso glad i fell in loe with it now lol. what keeps me going is knowing that my team has come so far already and wanting to be even better every practice. and showing people how far we have come since day 1. and my team they keep me going on the days i just wanna give up and throw in my bow.

towards the end of 7th grade i was getting a ride home from a friends older sister from the mall, and my friends sister was going to be the new cheer coach at our middle school and convinced me to try out and i just barely made the team! i tied scores with another girl and so we both made it.
then the same coach is the reason i kept in cheerleading, she is my role model and we do fight a lot and yell at each other but its always for a good reason.

P.S. she is currently my JV coach and starting football season is taking over as head coach overseeing the high school teams and all the middle school teams! So proud of my coach kae :cheering:

I went to a camp for my rec team in our towns all star gym. At the end the allstar girls gave out awards and I got best overall cheerleader and they asked me to join their team. I begged my mom to let me do it. This was is fifth grade. As a freshman in high school I'm now on a jr 5 team. I keep going because I have made it so far and if I stop now with the little time I have left and don't achieve my goals I know I will regret it, a second later. Cheer is my life. I'm getting upset that I age out of juniors this year. I don't want to know how it will be when I really age out all together :(

My school started a team when I was in grade 11. I had always done gymnastics when I was younger, and I had a vague memory of seeing girls get thrown in the air at football games and always thought that would be so much fun to fly. Joined the team the year it started, and never looked back. I'm a back spot though. No topping for me. :(

My mom was a very high level gymnast when she was growing up, and, after years of trial and error with soccer, ballet, jazz,tap...she finally decided to go sign me up for gymnastics at age 6. I saw a CEA team practicing in the gym, said something along the lines of "I don't wanna do gymnastics...I wanna do that!"...and the rest is history.
