Hey everyone,

I am looking to start a cheerleading team that will be founded specifically for raising awareness on issues such as bullying and teen and young adult suicide and increasing mental health awareness. I thought it would be great to talk directly with cheerleaders and cheer communities to get better idea of what is most important for you when joining teams.

How important is it for you to be on a team that competes? While I want the team's main focus to be on the cause and raiseing awareness I was wondering: would you still be interested in being part of a team that does not do competitions? and does more of exhibitions, events, parades, etc.

Thanks for ya'll help,

Respectfully,

Memory

I think that depend on why you cheer to begin with. I personally would not be interested if we didn't go to competitions. I like to compete and win trophies. I think it would take a special bunch of kids to join in on such a wonderful cause. I love the idea though

I agree, competitions are part of what makes the sport for me. I would think that the topic might be a bit mature for younger cheerleaders also. I guess it just depends on what age group you are trying to gather for your team. Maybe make two separate teams?
