Well, What do ya'll think, comp or HS? I want to try out for my schools varsity team this year. I'd have to drive alonnnnnng ways to do allstars, and id be on senior 2. So which is worth it in your opinion?

I'm a freshman this year and last year I did all-star but this year I was on my high-school's varsity team. We did very well and got first in ICCA State competition, but I'm going back to all-star cheer. I learned alot more in a gym with tumbling coaches and more resources than I did at my high school. In my case, it's also not as hard on the body. The transition from springfloor to hardwood was awful. I got more injuries in the past year at high-school than I have in my entire life. So in my opinion I say stick with all-star :)

Lol that's true, but tumbling is super hard on my body, and my hs team doesn't tumble or compete, which sucks, but I'm trying to figure out which is going to hurt me more in the long run, if that makes sense.

yeah that makes sense, but if you're coming from all-star, just cheering at games is SOOO BORINGG unless theres a gym in your area that has open gym. I also have really bad shin splints and awful back alignment. I keep getting injured and since cheerleading is a yearlong sport I don't ever have time to heal, so I'm looking for the answer to which one is better for me in the long run also

Haha, so true. our allstar gym up here is horrible though. I feel like in the long run, I'd end up hurt because they dont pay attention to the athlete

It depends on what your looking for. While a few high schools have a specific criteria for skills, I find that the majority of kids use high school cheer as a type of social status rather than a skill building experience. If your looking for something to challenge your skills I would say choose allstar cheerleading.

I coach girls that do both and although it is hard on them, they love it, so are the driving force that pushes my HS team to excel. They are definitely my much more in shape athletes because they are constantly in the gym; sometimes they go to school, attend HS practice and then their Allstar practices. But again, these are my most dedicated athletes, so they work harder in school and at practices. I feel this is an excellent choice to do both if it can be worked out (I encourage my HS athletes to do All-stars - it only helps me in the long run) becasue they get the experience of cheering with the kids in their school, but also they are cheering at a higher level and meeting hundreds of people they would not meet in the HS setting. I love watching them excel in school and All-stars. Do both if you can - Just my opinion as a coach and a parent!

Love this post! I couldn't agree wiht you more cyclones13!!

I couldnt do both, it would be too hard on my body, and I would actually rather do rec because compared to comp and school, its more exciting than HS but not as hard on me as COmp, but there isnt a team here
